With the traditional types of 30-30 ammo, the best groups I was ever able to get at 100 yds were in the 3" range. With the leverevolution, 1~1.5" groups were no problem at all. That kind of grouping with an unmodified 336 Marlin is just awesome.
1MOA is incredible offhand if it is repeatable, but I would think minimum for rested and controlled shooting. I don't know though. I have a damn 16" barrel so I don't expect to have a lot of flexibility.
I do have the chuck conners big lever loop so i can spin-cock it one-handed while riding into a pack of train robbers, but lately I haven't really found a need to do so

Guess I don't really need one. I really need to have it re-blued. Local gunsmith said $140 to do it, not sure if that's a good deal or not. It has quite a bit of sentimental value to it so I'd like it to be back in the shape it was new.

Keep in mind that 200m is pretty close to 200yds, offhand guesstimating by sight pic. And that is pretty close to an eighth mile. Some stand setups have shooting paths out that far, but really, most shots where you would feel comfy, especially with an open sight, are more or less 150 and shorter. Often half that or less. For game.
Different situation for say antelope in hale county or whatever, but really man...

The point of my post was that with the right ammo, even off the shelf ammo, the 30-30 is capable of excellent accuracy, with groups 1/3 the size of traditional ammo groups a reality.
I was amazed, to say the least. I had written it off as being incapable of anything better than inside the ballpark accuracy. Brien (Skidmark) was with me, spotting, and could also hardly believe it."It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."

That is rested and controlled in my book, and I'm not saying that to take away from the accuracy. It is just a benchmark I would like to try and duplicate. I used to shoot with some pretty talented mofos and they were all about sub MOA, so I really have no good baseline. Except my own crappy shooting, and I go by minute of hubcap....
