I've shot a few. I think they are crude and not very accurate compared to other .223s I've shot. Not a big fan.

Love my mini 14. No jams, accurate, easy to clean, fun as hell to shoot, and incredibly good sights. Weight is comparable to an m4 variant (with a light barrel) and it is very compact. It is a rugged rifle and doesn't care what kind of ammunition you run in it. They also come with a set of scope rings for free, like all ruger center fire rifles. The sight plane is right on top of the bore, as opposed to an AR where the sights are 4 inches above the bore. This helps in my carbine competitions where you can point at the place where you want the bullet to hit instead of 4 or 5 inches above it like the AR guys have to. For $600, you just cannot go wrong with this rifle.

I know Bachman Gun had them for $599 a month or so ago. They may still have them too, but they were the ugly ones with the stupid pistol grip and folding stock on them.

My buddy's dad has one and it's a jam-o-matic. Fun to shoot when you aren't screwing with it though.

They used AC-556's. They're actually the cheapest centerfire select-fire rifles you can buy, so I think you don't have a hair on your ass if you don't do it.
