Nope. But you imply that a .40 cal won't go thru a typical front door of a house....I'm sayin otherwise.

      Clearly, you missed the point.

I had a similar incident happen to me when I lived in Minnesota. I lived in an access controlled apartment building (you had to have an access card, get "buzzed" in, or do the shady thing and follow someone in). Well, about 1:00 AM one morning, I woke to the sound of someone pounding on my door to the point I though they were going to break in. Our doors had peepholes, so before I went to look through it, I made sure any lights behind me were off. I had my .40 in one hand and the phone in the other (with 911 already dialed, just waiting on me to push "talk"). I looked through the peephole and saw a scruffy looking african-american gentleman in the hallway. I told him to go away, that he did NOT want to come into this apartment, that I had already called 911, and that I was armed. Thankfully, some part of that seemed to do the trick and he left. I went ahead and called the police anyway and told them what had happened, and that I believed he was not a resident and was up to no good. It was then that I learned that Minnesota does not have a Castle Doctrine anywhere near ours. I would have basically had to let him break in, warned him multiple times (how are they going to prove that, I wondered), and then shoot to disable...but only if there was no doubt that I would be gravely harmed if I did not shoot. I moved back here about 6 months later. They never caught the guy.

I think you did the right thing by not firing. I've had a few close calls at my apartment recently, and we have also had a high B&E rate lately. So I understand where you're coming from. I'm moving as soon as my lease expires. Always be sure of your target and what's beyond it.
              X2 on everything said here.

And what area of town are you!??! My neck of the woods is boring (and that's good in this case!).
