    You have no proof that the ammo being purchased is going to be used in a pistol. Sure, the dealer/seller has discretion on wether they want to sell it to the customer, but if they say it's for a rifle and you can't prove otherwise then there is no legal restriction on them buying it if they are over 18.
    .22 Long Rifle is a rifle cartridge. The others that you listed are handgun cartridges, regardless of how many rifles may be chambered for them.

        Colt didn't make any rifles heh

        My dad has a few revolvers and matching lever action rifles, including .45 Colt.

          .223, 6.5 Grendel and 6.8SPC are also considered pistol cartridges as well
