I think we'll all be shooting whatever we can and have ammo for...
Personally, if I had an AR, I'd shoot the AR. I know with iron sights you can hit targets fairly accurately over a fairly long distance. My end of the world gun(s) would not have any scopes.ZOMBIE REAGAN FOR PRESIDENT 2016!!! heh

Reading this topic makes me think all of you have been playing too many first person shooter video games.
WTSHTF if you run out in the street with an AK and a 75 round drum to play rambo, sure you may take down a lot of people but you will end up dead and then someone else will have your precious AK.
Survival isn't about killing the most people up close and personal, it is about never being found.
Think sniper.... You want to be able to reach out and dispose of someone and then get hidden in a new location. That will be the only way to survive if the SHTF.
Ever get shot in a first person shooter? Well WTSHTF you won't get a new life so easily.
Like I said if you are going to war with a big army of idiots, then you need AKs. Outside of that.... they make fun to own rifles but it isn't a survival rifle at all.

If you buy into this thread though, you need an AK with a 75 round drum, a bipod, a PRS stock, side mounted laser, a bayonet, a 2 candle power LED light on it, and a Rambo knife so you can stitch up your bad ass after you kill all the infidels.

I honestly believe an ar15 is a better survival weapon. The only thing you can argue about an AK is after 15k rounds, its more reliable. And its second to the AR in every other category. I'm of the opinion that AK's reputation far far exceeds reality."When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

It comes down to what you want really. I'll take the AR. Ammo conservation is key and accuracy is going to be a huge part in helping conserve ammo. Also, the iron sights are approximately 1,000,000,000,000x better on the AR.
I've shot M16s very accurately out to 700m w/ iron sights and I'm far better trained on the weapon, so just some more reasons I'd take an AR. With decent, daily weapons maintenance taking about 10 minutes time, the AR won't jam anymore than the AK.

The reality is that in a survival situation, you won't be blasting away a ton of dudes with a 75 round magazine before you are filled full of lead.
Apparently, you don't know anyone that has ever been shot at in a combat situation, have never been shot at yourself, or you don't learn very fast.
Heck you've probably never been faced with any life threatening situation at all.
