Of course I would... this cleaning theory is extremely weak. Seems like everyone throws it out there, but never thinks anything through. How many rounds do you expect to shoot? Thousands? Do you really think you would survive shooting your gun over a thousand times and not get killed? You couldn't even carry enough ammo to dirty an AR up so bad it didn't function. Seems like everyone expects to be in some firefight in call of duty. It isn't hard to clean a gun. Give me nothing more than a dirty ass AR15 and a forest and I will come out in 1 day with a spotless clean rifle. Unless we're taking into account whoever owns this rifle is a complete idiot, I don't see the weak argument around not being able to clean your weapon. And that's to even consider I subscribe to the AR-15 is less reliable than an AK if it isn't cleaned school of thought, which I'm firmly against.

Well it depends on the frequency of use, storage, and even more importantly environment. I would trust my abilities and my weapon to hold up. If not I would hope to have my AK for backup.

On my survival list, ability to clean rifle is in top 10, right next to moonshine.

Talk to the guys that went over to Vietnam and were issued the M16. Ask them how they held up in that jungle environment.

Let's see, I was a cryptologic technician in the Marines, held a Top Secret clearance and worked with classified documents. My MOS was 2621 (Manual Morse Intercept Operator) and ran a language lab back at 2d Radio Battalion. I was the NCO in charge of gathering classified and non-classified training materials for use in keeping the interpreters proficient in language skills (Russian, Farsi, Spanish, etc). I was trained in Dignitary Protection and Counter Terrorism so I could be useful while not being utilized in the intelligence community.

I've now been LEO for 19 years, and in only one "gunfight". I was shot at back in 1994 and after the guy popped off the round, he ran behind a house and hid in a field after dumping the gun, so I did not get to drop the hammer on him.

The best gunfight is one that you don't have to pull the trigger.

I am not saying that the AK is the BEST WEAPON EVAR, but it is hands down more reliable than the AR. I bought an AK from a guy that had probably over 10k rounds through it, and I've put probably another 10k through it. It has NEVER failed to fire.

I cannot, on the other hand, say that about my workhorse AR. It requires attention (cleaning) on a regular basis or it will have a malfunction.

It still doesn't change the fact that the greatest battlefield rifle of all time ( the AK ) is a pretty lousy personal survival weapon.

If stopping power is your chief argument you can get larger caliber AR uppers quite easily and still have 223 for varmits and small game.

Most people aren't douche nozzles in person but everyone is on the Internet.
