That said, I firmly believe that WTSHTF if it does, an AK will be near worthless.

Seriously are you going to be in close range combat with so many foes that you need a rifle that puts lots of heavy bullets all over the place? Do you intend to fight an entire army with your entire army?

For a war weapon the AK is great for a survival weapon it is nearly worthless.

In an individual, family or small group survival situation accuracy, RANGE and mobility and the ability to hide will be far more important than putting lots of bullets in the air.

I'm willing to bet the guy that never has to shoot WTSHTF will probably live the longest.

The other guys that will live long are the ones that can take out the bad guys from a long way away and get their asses far away.

The AK doesn't really offer either of those opportunities.

Of course this is just my opinion.

Now if I were going to start an army of idiots in a backward country where illiteracy is rampant I would love the AK since any idiot can operate one.
Only part of your statement I agree with is that the ak is a great war weapon. Yes the ar has a longer distance round blah blah. I own both and personally if shtf I think I would reach for my ak with 75rnd drum. I can hit where I want with an ak at 100yrds, how much further are you really going to be shooting? I would buy both. They have different functions. The ak for brute force, and the ar for longer more acurate shots.

Ak's believe it or not, Jam no if and or buts. By the power of the Kremlin, it took a hammer, a sickle and the manpower equal to that of a remote soviet village to pry my AK to work again.

If your whole argument is based on the round itself, then what about a WASR 10? It's .223

If the fight begins at @ only 100 yards, then I'll be hitting them before they even wake up that morning to fight. LOL

Any of them CAN jam, but I have no complaints with the WASR. Now the SKSs and some other AK-based weaponry completely make me throw up a little in the back of my throat. The more I read, however, the more I realize that I just had a good rifle... I guess.

Honestly, the first time you put an AR together, you'll be like, "WTF? I was worried about this?"

Yeah, I don't own an "AR" I've only played with the M16A2s in a fairly hardcore manner while enlisted. I've used and broke down other people's "ARs" and they generally seem to be the same.

Hell, during my boot camp - if some of those people could figure them out - anyone can.

                        ^ I agree.

If TSHTF, I'd grab the AK with the 75 round drum. In an urban setting, you're hardly EVER going to be shooting at 100+ yards. If I'm at 100 yards and under, I'd rather have a 125gn HP round than a 55gn one.

Durability: AK. Less parts and looser tolerances.

Ammo: AK. They love any ammo you feed them. And steel cased is much cheaper than brass. It's also a more potent round.

If you want something now, get the AK now and the AR later. That's exactly what I did.
This is pretty much the truth. If I had to take one rifle into a survival situation, it would be the AK.

With that said, I own 5 ARs, and only 1 AK, but I could probably shoot the 1 AK more times than the 5 ARs combined and still not have a stoppage due to the weapon being dirty.

These threads are always interesting, the different opinions, facts and sometimes bullshit.

I think we'll all be shooting whatever we can and have ammo for...

Personally, if I had an AR, I'd shoot the AR. I know with iron sights you can hit targets fairly accurately over a fairly long distance. My end of the world gun(s) would not have any scopes.

Why do you have 5 AR's?
