  • /scored a really old S&W revolver today

    it wasw my great, great uncles.. my great aunt gave it to me today.. it was her husbands fathers

    nothing bad ass but still thought it was cool... its some sort of .32 I would appreciate any info on it since its a 4th generation family gun



    the black grips look way better on the .45 too!!

                      You can write S&W with model and serial number and they will send you back when it was made, who it was sold to (like FFL, police, etc).

                        That's a Commander. The Officer's model has a shortened barrel, and a shorter frame.

                          probably right but mine doesnt say 1911 on it anywhere... it says "MARV IV SERIES 80" which probably doesnt mean anything... it still does break down the exact same way as a full size 1911 though

                              that was a pretty common sidearm for non-military and reserve issue early in the 20th century. I think the contracts were originally filled by S&W and H&R both. I'm sure a lot ended up as police issues too.

                              Any family member a postal inspector, reserve officer or BLM agent? Something like that? It could have been military issue as well but those generally went back to uncle sam for resale, and if this is 4th gen maybe there is some more history behind it?
