How in the holy hell do you survive those things? I had the opportunity this weekend to squeeze a few off on a Barrett M82A1 and it was pretty incredible. And even it being a giant heavy semi automatic purpose built .50BMG rifle with a very efficient muzzle brake the concussion and thump was incredible. I can not understand how anyone could live with that in a bolt gun. I think I know why so many are for sale now... haha.

I never got a chance to shoot my friends .50, but it was heavy, like 37 lbs, and had a huge brake, but he swore it kicked less than his 8mm Lazz. It did seem to convince bystanders to check their ears for blood. I'm still pissed that I never got to shoot it.sigpic18 F150 Supercrew - daily

I got to shoot a Maadi-Griffin bolt action about 10 years ago. I remember thinking the recoil wasn't any worse than the 12 gauge I was skeet shooting with earlier that day. It was impressive but I don't remember any unusual discomfort from the muzzle brake concussion. I only shot it twice though since it wasn't my rifle or ammo. I think about six of us shot about two dozen rounds total that day and no one complained.

Shot my buddy's Barrett and was really surprised what little kick it had, compared to other big bores I've shot. Muzzle brake and weight sure tamed it down. I stood in the path of the muzzle brake ports when he shot it and wow did that thing thump ya! We put around 35 rounds down range that day. I don't think I would want to shoot the AR based 50, though.Last edited by 68RR; 09-24-2011, 03:37 PM.Natural law. Sons are put on this earth to trouble their fathers.

If you are referring o the Beowulf its not a .50bmg, but its still a heckuva round. When youve got a huge bmg rifle, the mass of the weapon tones down the round. In the case of the AR its a pretty rough shot as the kick is very sharp.
I could shoot my buddies armalite 50 bolt action all day, but i was done with my beowulf after 4 shots.

Not at all. Not that he bothered to ask or think about before opening his mouth but i shoot my B with heavy grain without a brake and offhand. If he wants to assume he knows all and throw his .02 in, fine - i'm just letting him know i dont give a shit so he can save time in the future.
