  • Remington Model 770?

Is it as good of a rifle as the model 700? I haven't seen one in person yet, but plan to check one out when I get back from Iraq. What do you guys think of this rifle as an entry level for a 12 year old? Plan to get him a .223 or .243. I have a model 700 .300 for myself and its the best shooting rifle Ive ever owned.

Piece of junk. Spend a little more and get the 700.
For any hunting I would go with the .243 or step it up to the 7-08 and he could hunt it for a lifetime...

Get the Marlin XS7 or XL7, remember Marlin is now owned by Remmington. I have one and like it better than a standard 700. My .308 get sub MOA groups and the rifle cost me under $300 from Academy. Nice thick recoil pad and an adjustable trigger that goes down to ~2.5 lbs pull.

Agreed, 7-08 would be a great round for a kid that he can keep forever.

Exactly whats been said already, there are much better things to blow money on than that thing. 700 or other decent bolt action is the way to go
