  • Ruger LCP - Accessory Input

So, I wanted a pocket carry and did sort of an impulse buy of a Ruger LCP at Bullet Trap yesterday. Zero research and picked it over the Kel Tec simply because it was all flat black. Well in my mind if felt better, but after getting home and researching - supposedly they are the same just the parts are shaped different.

I'm putting in an order today for 3 magazines (Bullet Trap wanted 45 per magazine, midwayusa has them for 18 a piece now). I was thinking about a basic laser.

Since I did not do my research, I bought a standard Desanti pocket holster at BT as well. I was checking out the lasers and the 3 main ones seem good enough (Crimson, Armalaser and Laserlyte). I was leaning towards the Laserlyte since I'd be able to use the holster I got with it and the youtube video review/demonstrations seem pretty positive (not to mention it does not cost a ton and look so bulky).

I'm also considering just painting the sights with that glow in the dark paint and skipping the laser - but from my reading - it indicates a laser is a good addition just to get you on target quicker. Those with pocket guns have any input on painting the sights vs laser vs just leaving it alone?

    Take care,

I don't have any advice for you, but I just picked one of these up last night. Can't wait to put a few rounds through it.

$45 a magazine?!?! I'm afraid to ask what the gun itself costed.

I'm a big Kel-tec fan and the only things I've purchased were more mags (one extended) and a grip clip. I refuse to put a laser on any of my handguns. For an LCP, I do like this little set-up if you do go the laser route:

Gun itself was around 300 which is standard market price. I did NOT buy them at 45 bux a pop though, I'd just reload the magazine over and over at the range for that cost.

I would hope so. You'll enjoy having it. They are great for daily carry.

Yeah, the G19 was just too much - especially since I generally sit at a desk. I already love it, just gotta get some rounds through it and finish up anything I'm going to do with it.

Instead of a holster this is what I carry mine with. It sits low enough in the pocket to look like a knife clip.

Ya, that's what I have on the Kel-tec. absolutely perfect and comfortable.

I'm looking at picking up one of these pretty soon. Probably going to rent one and see which i like better. How does the bodyguard compare to the ruger and keltec?

Call me a wuss, but I absolutely have to have my trigger covered when it is stowed. I'm not paranoid to the point that I don't keep one in the chamber but I am paranoid enough to want it covered.

Although, I noticed it has like a 3 foot trigger pull on it (dual action) - so it would be hard to accidentally pull it.

Also, it would solve my problem of how to carry when running in strange towns at odd times too.

I'm the same way. That worries me. But then again i don't know how the trigger pull is.

IMO, a laser on a pocket pistol is useless. They're for very close defensive work. Close enough where you should be able to point, squeeze the trigger, and hit your target.
I wouldn't mess with glow in the dark paint on the sights for that reason either. Plus if its in your pocket it isn't getting light for the paint to "charge." I put some flourescent paint dots on the sights of my wife's LCP just for range duty. Even then, she practices with it @ 7 yrds and you can hit the target well just by pointing and shooting.

If you want to mod it, I have a friend that put a stiffer slide spring on his. He said it makes it more enjoyable to shoot (less felt recoil). I haven't tried it yet though.

Thats all just my $.02, do as you see fit.

Appreciate the advice and good point on the paint. Even when out it'll probably be night time anyway

Take a look at the PF9 also. Pocket gun in 9mm, I would get it before the P3AT if it is the Kel Tec you are mentioning.

I considered that one prior to the lcp, but it is a tad big for pocket carry imo. For me would have been perfect since I have a Glock 19 and could have just used that ammo.
