For a SHTF scenario, what best combo using the same ammo?

If the fastest single barreled cyclic rate machine gun can operate with it, I'd trust it. The MG42 could fire more rounds in 10 minutes than most weapons can handle in a lifetime. It's a very proven technology. I've never had a jam in my G3 since I've owned it.

I forgot that Taurus and S&W have their .45lc/410 pistols too.

I'll be practical and rule out zombies. Natural disaster is the most likely although government/infrastructure collapse is reasonable (and seems more so yearly). The reason for choosing .45 lc (although .44 mag would be good too) is because you can readily hunt larger game with it at longer distances and not have to worry about having to get a head shot. You're more limited in the hunting aspect of possible SHTF with the other pistol calibers mentioned. Plus the revolvers and lever action rifles are rock solid designs. Could also go with a mare's leg instead of a revolver for a side arm. As part of SHTF, I'd suggest learning to reload and buying supplies for that too.

A more modern option could also be an AK or SK and a draco pistol.

I reserve the last round for myself cause that's how I roll.
I like your way of thinking.

I got a 22LR each for the kids, 12ga for the wife, the boy may get the .223 if the shtf and he is older, I'll just pop off with the 30-06. I'd like an AR-10 - we'll just have to see.

No that I necessarily believe in this SHTF stuff - but ya know...never hurts to have as much ammo as you can.

Fair weather fan? I have always thought very, very highly of the MP5 and all of its variants. There is a reason is has been in service for so long in so many countries, while clearing out arsenals of its competition.

In a real SHTF situation. In the fist place your not going to be using your side arm very much, unless your just a lucky dumb ass that gets caught off guard all the time and let them get that close to you.

Keep this in mind when your shopping for the rifle you want.

              1. Most battles are fought between 100 and 300 meters.
              2. A side arm is only good for fighting your way back to the rifle you should have never left behind. (Your not going to need a ton of side arm ammo)
              3. Ammo does not grow on trees. Choose a caliber that will be plentiful.
              4. Remember, ammo will weigh you down. .308 is heavy in bulk.

              Happy hunting

              Just a thought.

Check out everything that shoots the 7.62X25 ammo if your dead set on having the same caliber rifle and side arm.

                My zombiepocalypse plan?

Move to Keith's house, but stop by Denny's place to pick up the little wifey after he depletes his "last round".

                Yeah, that's it.

LOL! Matt's house is closer to me

Being limited to one caliber is really not realistic but if that's the scenario I would probably go with a Ruger Carbine in .40 S&W and a matching caliber pistol to go along with it.

9mm AR SBR with suppressor and pistol would be nice combo

True but thinking realistically this is what I could afford to have. Unrealistically, I'd love to have a H&K UMP in 10mm and a matching pistol (probably a Glock). Or maybe an AR with a Keltech AR pistol.

Maybe I should swing by Denny's first instead

I guess I need to pick up some more 7.62x39. I'm down to about 6,000 rounds.

I still have about 13,000 rounds of .223/5.56mm.

I would probably take my city issued Sig P220 or my S&W 686. Hell, I may even grab the Kimber. I love that gun.

For reliabilty, the AK all the way. For distance the AR.

I too would seek out someone with resources and training similar to mine. That way we could take watch, or scout out and acquire more resources.

I'm heading for a place out in the middle of nowhere that has 10 containers welded together buried under 10 feet of earth. If the SHTF I'm not saying in the city.
