You are right. After I had a chance to play with some lights that are putting out around 1000 lumen and higher everything else looks dim.

Total mod cost if you already have a 2 D cell unit is costing us $80. This is including the batteries that are rechargeable and a charger. The lite will have 3 power settings, on high it will last for 3.5 hours continuous use and on low it would go for near 14 hours straight @ over 300 lumen. (these cells are bad ass) I am going to do a write up in this forum when its done if anyone is interested with side by side video compairson of a stock mag lite and a couple other tactical lights that are high output. This thing should be a real blinder and a good way to throw someone off for a few seconds if you really needed it.
where do you get the stuff for this? i have a maglight here somewhere that i havent used in years

I ordered from 3 different places, 2 of which are out of the country. On top of that there is one piece that has to be custom made and a mod to another piece of the stock flashlight. It is not just plug and play stuff as the entire guts of the light will be replaced or worked over. Its not nearly as complicated as it sounds but there is some level of craftsmanship that needs to be paid to get it right. I will post up all details in a new thread in a week or so after I get them all together tested out.

My all time favorite and I too am a flashlight junkie, hell I gave Surefires to my groomsmen, but my favorite go to flashlight is my headlamp by Petzel. $55+or-. When I packed my rucksack for travel that is the first thing I make sure has batteries and is in the very top pouch of my ruck. I use that thing almost daily in my room to keep from turning overhead lights on and waking my neighbors. Hell I even bought my wife one for her to use in the house. They have the slide over red lense that allows me to read without disturbing other people and are totally hands free.

Now I still use Streamlights TLR1s for my home defense guns and I have other surefires stashed throughout the house. G3s are good, cheap, handy and bright enough for inside the house work.

One of my guys found a Sure fire M2 Beam light with IR cover and mount in the burn pit a few weeks ago. Probably a $3,000 flash light and mount but without the external batteries and cables; useless.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

Same here, for most activities I prefer using my headlamp. When I go camping it's one of the first things I pack. When I cookout at night I prefer using it over other light sources I have near my grill. I own a couple of these Streamlight headlamps, picked them up for roughly $20 and they run off of two CR123 batteries. Has three settings and the low is good for pretty much any close up duties and will last for a long time (Streamlight rates it at 30 hours).

I have a streamlight stinger, stinger hp two streamlight pen lights and the new knucklehead . and for all the techs out there the knucklehead is by far the best work light ever offered on any tool truck.

300 lumen @ under 50 bucks. This is a nice product and the price is a steal.

Yup, before I bought the rechargeable's I would use my Surefire's sparingly as I didn't want to waste expensive batteries unless I really needed it. Now I use them all the time and keep the non-rechargeable's in a storage case that goes with me when I camp in case of emergency (they have a pretty long shelf life).

Here's a link to where I bought mine. I bought mine with a 6 pack of rechargeable batteries.

Just picked one up for $95.00. Comes with 2 CR123 batteries, lanyard and holster, plus free shipping.

I also opted for a charger and two 900mAh rechargeable batteries for an extra $37.00.

                        $132.00 out the door.

Here's the link if anyone is interested.

They had the best prices I've found so far. They also told me about a brand called Olight. Pretty damned nice flashlight for the money.

I picked up a cheapo supposed 200 lumens light. Man it puts my 2d mag to.shame. I can't wait for the 468 lumens. The cheapo I got does have an adjustable head. No donut and lights up twice the size. I like it for 12 bucks.

I've already got the bug. I want to build a 6p next and either do the mag conversion or get the tk35.

I carry a Pelican 7060 at work. It's okay but does not have the best run time plus it is kind of bulky. It is rechargeable and has a tail switch too.

I am going to, I am just waiting on the last shipment of stuff to get here. It is the drivers and a new glass lenses for the maglites. The stock ones are some sort of plastic and scratch easily.
