    DPMS are ok as entry level rifles, and if that is what you are wanting then I say go for it. If you want a little better quality go with RRA or Armalite or the King of AR's: Knights Armament!
    The reason for the DPMS being suggested over the RRA is the parts interchange RRA uses a lot of one off parts that don't work on anything but there Rifles. So if you want to be stuck with RRA or armalite parts buy one, If you want to use the entire aftermarket buy a DPMS.

      blast from anything 308/7.62x51 in 16" is kind of rediculous.
      Maybe not so obvious in a semi auto, but damn my enfield is rediculous!
      shorter is typically higher recoil too, unless you want to brake it. brakes are nice but fuck I bet theyre loud with with 308 +
