Can anyone recommend a decent 1911? I saw one from American Classics for mid 400's but I'm not sure of the reliability. This would be my first handgun, and would be for concealed carry.
Thanks
2008 GT - cammed, 93 octane tune, 326 to the wheels
I wouldn't recommend a "cheap" 1911 as your concealed carry, especially your first. Go with a Glock or XD or something along those lines. Just my $.02.

ditto,
Many 1911's, even the high dollar ones can be a little finicky, which isn't a good quality for a CCW. That said they are a blast to shoot and every gun owner should own one, or ten.
**waiting for the: "My, (insert make) 1911 has 50,000 rounds through it without a single failure line"

It'll be a Kimber owner, guaranteed. And it'll be a lie.
1911s are a big for for cc as Yale said. I would go small and light if possible. Remember if anyone can see that you are carrying, it's not concealed. Mine is small but not light - ss Colt Mustang 380. It's small enough to easily conceal, but it would be nice if it could be lighter.
Just my 2 cents, but hey, I got my chl in 1996, so what would I know.

If you must have a 1911 I'd recommend a Springfield. Proabably the best cost to quality ratio you will find in a 1911.
That said, I would go with something smaller and easier to conceal. My wife's Khar CW9 has been very reliable and very easy to conceal. XDM compacts are good but thicker which could pose a problem. Glocks are also thick, but very reliable and lighter than a full metal gun like a 1911.
I don't like Republicans, but I really FUCKING hate Democrats.
Sex with an Asian woman is great, but 30 minutes later you're horny again.
You don't want a 1911 for CC, not if you're not already familiar with them. You want a modern polymer frame gun for that, or maybe a Witness.
Exactly. A Smith & Wesson M&P, a Glock, or an XD would be a great first choice. Then, later pick up a 1911 as a range gun, and you can get familiar with them.
FWIW, I do carry a 1911, but that is CCW number.....6? I think.
