PARKER COUNTY, Texas - A Parker County homeowner was injured early this morning after exchanging gunfire with an intruder, who later died, Sheriff Larry Fowler said.
The incident happened at about 5 a.m. in the 500 block of Spring Creek Parkway, near Weatherford.
According to Fowler, the shootout happened when the unidentified homeowner woke to find a burglar inside his home.
The burglar apparently opened fire on the homeowner, striking him in the forearm, and the victim then shot the intruder in the head, Fowler said.
The homeowner chased the suspect out of the home before the alleged intruder collapsed, Fowler said.
The suspect was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
