Best piece of advice, go shoot a few guns and see what fits your hand well and youre comfortable shooting, then make a decision, and if need be save up a couple more bucks to get something a little more expensive if you shoot better/feels better. Just dont let price be the only factor in what youre looking at, not saying compare $750+ guns to a $400 gun, but honestly 4-500 is a good range with alot of options.
Personally I love my XDs, shoot great, fits well in my hand and never had an issue with any of them.
Some of the $3-400 wheel guns are also nice, ive been happy with my Taurus 85 ultra lite, was around $315 when I bought it over a year ago, budsgunshop has them for $289 now.
