Another "worth it?" thread

Found a decent deal on a Marlin 30-30 lever action with a scope (cheap tasco) for $350. Wanted to get myself a little going-away present for Florida so this kinda just fell in my lap. I was either wanting an older style rifle like this, a revolver or a shotgun. This price range is perfect, but wasnt sure if the rifle was worth it. I was really leaning towards revolver because I'm already set up for .357mag on my press, I don't have 30-30 dies

I have one, it's a good shooter as far as 30-30s go (i.e. they kick like a mule).

Kick like a mule? Compared to another cartridge? More than a .308? I have my Savage .308 and from what I can tell the 30-30 is firing a lighter bullet slower with less energy.

Follow up question, they can be bought brand new for $430 at CTD. Is it worth the ~$80 difference to buy the used or are the new ones significantly better?

I'd say very similar kick to a .308 bolt with a synthetic stock.
Most that I've seen are selling used for $300 to $350, so take that for what it's worth. If it's in good shape and already has a scope/scope mount, it's a reasonable enough deal.

Its got the scope mounted to it, but this is a 1960s model. I looked on gunbroker and most were low to mid 400's, but I know those can be way off sometimes.

I'd say $350 is a good deal. Mine is a 1974 manufacture and if I sold it, I'd want that for it without the scope.

Well did a little digging on the Marlin forums and looks like I'll be picking this up. Apparently Remington bought out Marlin and the post-2009 ones suck.
