  • What is your CCW?

I'm planning to get my CHL in the coming months. I really love my Beretta 92A1 9mm for the shooting range and home defense but i'm starting to research what I want to get for CCW. I prefer alloy guns to polymer so i'm considering the CZ 75 P01, CZ 75 RAMI, Sig 239, Sig 229, and the Beretta 92 compact even though it's still a little large. I like all these in 9mm but i'm open to .40. I shot my friends Kahr CW9 and it wasn't bad for a polymer.

So, what does everyone CCW and why? Also, how do you carry it?

Sigs are great but damn expensive.
I don't have my CHL yet but I have a CW9 and love it; that is what I will probably carry when I get my license. It is slim and light. My buddy carries one as his CCW about 95% of the time.

I'd recommend a XDM 3.8 subcompact but they are doublestack and still pretty thick; something that alot of people don't really consider when buying a CCW.

I need something smaller (frame). Like to pick up a .40 or .45 in the next month.

I carry a HK P7, great carry gun. Was actually designed for Concieled Carry. No protruding things to catch on clothing, except sights and those are rounded off. The mag release is a butt release. The slide catch is integrated into the hand guard. And the cocking mechanism and slide release is integrated into one. This gun is also called the "squeeze cocker". I carry it in a holster I got from a place out here in VA, and it's an inside the pant holster. Easily concielable with shorts and a t-shirt. ONLY drawback to it, is it's a 9MM But I don't care how tough you are, 8 9MM's to the chest and you probably aren't getting back up. Also it's kinda pricy and difficult to find.

                          M&P9 IWB 4 o'clock.

It's comfortable there for me, although I had to switch my wallet from right side to left back pocket to accommodate. The muzzle would pin the wallet and make it hard to retrieve.

Also pocket carry a .380 when dressed up for work, but I don't like it because the one I have is too bulky and REALLY prints if I don't wear pleated slacks. This is equipment issue and I need to get a different pistol and holster to make this more workable. Leaning towards an LCP to fill this role.

Mostly a matter of preference. You might try a few things before settling on something.

I plan to test a variety of guns just like I did when I purchased my Beretta 92A1. For now, i'm just internet researching. I'm reading good things about the CZ's and was impressed with the full size CZ 75 I shot previously. I've also been impressed shooting my wife's bro-in-law's Sig P226 stainless in .40, which is why i'm interested in the Sig 229 and 239 even though Sig's cost more. The only thing I don't like on the Springfield's is the grip safety. The grip safety feels odd in my palm when firing but maybe you get use to it over time.
