  • AR15 scope & iron sight combos

On one of my guns I will probably use a 3X9 scope since it will be mostly for hunting. What are some options you like for flip ups or standard iron sights that will work with scopes?

Why do you want flip up sights AND a scope?

You could always use old see-through rings.

I don't care if they are flip up or standard, just seeing what is out there that works. I do not want to go with a carry handle and a scope.

But why any iron sights with a scope other than a red dot or halo type sight?

No need on a hunting gun IMO.

exactly, most hunting rifles that are drilled for scopes don't come with iron sights anymore.

I can see if you are using a battery powered red dot, laser or halo sight you would want to co-witness iron sights with them in case the battery died.

As stated before you can use flip up sights and see thru scope mounts if you have to have the iron sights, with a large diameter scope, larger than 40mm, you might need the extra height anyway....

You can always get a 45 degree red dot mount OR. An NCstar top mount.

Without my gun hobby. I would cut off my own dick and let the rats eat it...

What kind of crappy scope are you planning on using that you have a legitimate concern for it failing?

I would just use a BUIS system with my scope on a QD mount. If it fucked up, take it off and use the BUIS.

On the Ar i hunt with it has a A2 front site, LaRue LT104 w/ a MI flip up rear site. Sometimes i will take the scope off when we're hunting out the back of the truck for varmint. I can get on target faster with iron sites when they're close.

It's your gun, do what ever you want.
You remember the stories John use to tell us about the the three chinamen playing Fantan? This guy runs up to them and says, "Hey, the world's coming to an end!" and the first one says, "Well, I best go to the mission and pray," and the second one says, "Well, hell, I'm gonna go and buy me a case of Mezcal and six whores," and the third one says "Well, I'm gonna finish the game." I shall finish the game, Doc.

I am new to AR15s so wanted yalls opinion. I thought the open sights may not be a bad idea on some hog hunts in the dark woods.

                        Honestly, I'd just go scope.

I looked into the same thing. I wanted standard sights with my AR, just to bounce between the two for the fun of it. Like mentioned, the only decent option was the QD, with flip up rear sights.

To be honest, I really don't want to spend the money on the QD mount and all that jazz. I'm just going to buy another AR for the purpose of being light w/ iron sights. I have a M&P I'm going to take the cheap scope off of too and put the iron sights back on to hold me over.

Generally speaking, as an AR newb myself - it seems like comobs of optics/iron sights are considered normal for red dot type sights but I don't see it too often or in many places with a true scope.
