Some of that may be a bit fringey for your liking, but I'm trying to keep it relatively current. I'm in the same boat as you in that most of my collection predates my own birth.

And that reminds me to now post up Pete Rock. One of the most influential producers in hip-hop, period. If you can think of a rap/hip-hop artist that doesn't suck, Pete Rock has probably worked with them (he did a lot of shit with CL Smooth that's just disgustingly tasty).

This is off his instrumental album, Petestrumentals.

Somebody recommended Fair to Midland to me last week and I'm digging it. Nothing crazy heavy, just some good hard rock.

They have a new album coming out sometime this year. Looking forward to it!

This is a fraction of the stuff I would recommend but this stuff fits your list the best.

            Cage the Elephant

            Manchester Orchestra

            Silversun Pickups

            Riverboat Gamblers

Throwing in Sleigh Bells because they are damn catchy no matter who you are:

Their appearance on Austin City Limits (the TV show) presents a really great cross section of their music.

Impossible Germany. Guitar work here is fanfuckingtastic, although it's even better on the album version

Side With the Seeds. More guitar awesomeness from Nels Cline.
Impossible Germany is one my favs...

If you like Tweedy checkout one of his side projects; Loose Fur - album "Born again in the USA"

Kinda in the Wilco sound is a band called "Bright light social hour". Saw them live in Austin and they are really into their music.

              Some others ideas;

              Sick Puppies
              Beulah
              Overseen
              Toadies
              The beautiful girls
              G love and special sauce
              Coldwar kids

I discovered Loose Fur about a year and a half ago, I absolutely love the shit out of their self-titled.

Also, I really fucking hate Coldplay, but their debut album 'Parachutes' is nothing short of brilliant. It's got several songs on it that got some pretty heavy radio coverage, but the rest of that album is an absolute gem.

I just watched their video for "Start Wearing Purple" and for some reason I want more. Why is this?
