  • Cartel Land

It's a documentary about vigilantes fighting Mexican drug gangs. Sounds like their the good guys, but as it goes along you start to see how their almost as bad as the Cartels. Makes me think, maybe we(USA) should focus on the Cartels more than Isis.

    It's on Netflix.

The cartels would disappear in a month if we legalized all drugs and their use. The real problem with the war on drugs is that we are making the wrong people very rich.

No they wouldn't. Criminals are very adaptable. They would find other ways to make a bunch of money and it would likely be something illegal. Kidnappings, assisnations, robbery, running guns, murder for hire, etc etc are all things mafia type organizations have done. Crime didnt disappear with alcohol prohibition, but when they got rid of that the criminals running booze moved on to other profitable activities. Cartels would take a hit for a while but they would recover. Mexico is so corrupt that getting away with profitable crime is easy so they would find something else to do.

Papa smurf was a corrupt little fucker. It goes to show there are only two types of people in Mexico: folks that work with the cartels and those that soon will. It's a real clusterfuck, and it's clear that they control our southern borders.

Also, I find it facinating that all the politicians and other folks in power are very light skinned. Almost sickly looking at times, just unnaturally pale. I guess the white man isn't alone in preferential treatment for light complexions.

And finnaly, prohibition will NEVER work. Although ending it would put a lot of powerful folks in this country out of work. I'm still not sure legalization of ALL narcotics would work, but a few are no-brainers.

Kidnapping is not a good business model and neither is robbery. To be really profitable the crime has to be profitable simply because it is illegal and it is something that the consumer really wants. It also helps that no one is freaking out and alerting law enforcement when you sell them the dope that they want unlike robbing them or kidnapping a persons loved ones. There would not be a market for running guns the same way there is a market for illegal drugs for a few simple reasons. One is that guns are a durable good and two there is a very large supply of legal guns that keeps the prices of illegal guns low except in a few small markets. Murder for hire is also a dead end business model as the demand for the service is not very high. What is left is the old school stuff that the FBI is EXTREMELY good at stopping, the vice crimes, protection rackets and bulk theft of consumer goods.

You need to look at organized crime like the business that it really is and the only way to stop it is to take away the profits. From a business standpoint there is no difference between illegal drugs and orange juice.

If you take away profits from one good, they will move onto another good. They always do. Legalizing all drugs will not shut down organized crime.

They profit from things that have massive margins caused by those things being illegal because of a statute. If you get rid of the potential for huge profits by making everything legal they will have no incentive to commit a crime that will lock them away if they can make the same margins doing something completely legal. You do not see they guys selling cigarettes dying by the thousands or getting locked up for life like you do with the drug trade. I have even seen reps from competing alcohol distribution companies in the same room as each other and they were not trying to kill each other unlike the drug gangs.
