Also the atmospheric pressure on Mars peaks at slightly less than .2 psi compared to roughly 15 psi here on Earth. You saw the movie so you can imagine how certain things he did wouldn't work in those conditions. Imagine what a car radiator hose does when hot, that's 15 psi.
I read the main reason they didn't bother with the gravity difference was because of what was required to make it appear less was more complicated and expensive than it was worth since the difference between here and mars isn't as extreme and noticeable as here and the moon, for example. They decided that with the weight of the space suit it would be even less of a difference and so they decided to focus on other areas, for instance the weightless scenes on the spaceship was more worth the work due to the extreme difference.

It's was a good movie, it delivered. It was lengthy, but the time was well spent, and it didn't seem long. I did briefly flirt with the discrepancies in gravity and centrifugal force on the ship, but it was not distracting, and made sense for the content of the movie.

Ended up watching last night, and all I could think about was how much better the book was. Granted it's a movie, but they left out a lot of the big problems, and completely skimmed over any problem solving etc. It was just Matt Damon putting duct tape on stuff.

Also I like the whole "I smell because I haven't taken a shower in 1.5 years" when three scenes earlier was him getting out of a shower.

Did he say 1 1/2 years? I thought he said like 50 days which is how long he was in the rover?

Pretty sure he did say 1 1/2 years, but I also took it as a joke since they did show the showers.

this is like the defacto complaint from anyone who has read the book before seeing a movie. Movies have to at or just over 2 hours, can you read the book in two hours? You have to trim some stuff out.

I had a couple hours by myself to kill so i stopped in at a noon showing today. Great movie. Probably in the top 3 or 4 that have seen in a couple of years.

Agreed. It's not like they can go all Lord of the Rings and do three movies to cover one book. I still not to finish reading the book but the movies was pretty good.

Finally saw it. Definitely glazed stuff over from the book, sped it up and embellished...typical Hollywood book conversion. But I enjoyed it.

The science in this movie was just crazy but I did enjoy the movie. Damon's character was pretty likeable and the story moved along quickly.

I want to see it on the big screen but I have a decent set up at the house, so I might have to wait for blu-ray DVD. I have zero time for movies at the theater...
