I haven't watched it yet, but I got the feeling from the summary that alcohol will help with this one. Did it?

For me, the only real interesting part was the classroom. And Tilda Swinton is always awesome.

A similar movie that I feel was done better is City of Ember.

So after a quick goolgle search on how long a train will last, 1-200k seems pretty damn low considering you're looking at train cars that are in service for 50+years. Now, I'm not gonna say that it could go continuously for 18 years, I mean you can get 80k out of some tires.

            Porn shouldn't have a plot.

I love trains. I used to sit at the station in Canyon, TX as a kid and watch the trains come and go. My grandfather was an engineer for 30 years and took me on short runs (against regulations) from time to time. I sub-contract at BNSF Corporate periodically. Nothing $$$$Chooo$$$$Chooo..... I just really dig trains.

So, when I hear about a post-apocalyptic movie that deals with a train carrying the last remnants of humanity, I'm immediately interested. I wanted to give the film a chance. I just couldn't get past the technicals. Yes, a train CAR can last a long time. The trucks, wheels, and tyres are a different story. They wear relative to use. Flat spots on the tyre occur because of braking. The tyres can be turned on a lathe, sometimes without even having to remove them from the train. But, it still has to be done. And no, 100 - 200k miles isn't unreasonable based on the speed the train was going and the need for braking.

i forgot about the 18 year thing. i thought is odd for her to do that hand sequence and the camera go to it twice. i was trying to connect the significance of it and that is all i could come up with.

I don't want to give too much away but it's basically the last survivors on Earth are aboard a giant train amidst a giant civil class revolution. Plenty of violence, good acting and it's not a remake to my knowledge.
Remind me to never watch a movie based on your recommendation again, it was stupid.

Oh I did my usual on a super duper nail biting movie, looked for stuff to buy on the internet. There is no way I could have just sat there with a bucket of popcorn and watched it.

First half of thread "I liked it." second half, "it sucked." Sounds about right.

That is kind of what I was guessing this one was going to be like for me as well. I will still watch it later, but am not in a hurry.

Just watched this one. Overall, I thought it was pretty damn good. For those bitching about plot holes and wheel longevity, the movie starts off forcing you to suspend belief. Spoiler Alert. We're talking about a society who let a (group of) scientist(s) toss some "magic compound" into the atmosphere not knowing wtf would happen. That right there should have been your initial clue to turn off your "scientifically accurate" filters, sit back, and enjoy the story line.

The storyline, I felt, was well written and executed. The story is about the balance needed in an ecosystem for everything to flourish and survive, and the results and consequences that occur when that level of balance is skewed towards one side or the other. Lots of symbolism in this flick.
