I watched it last night because of this thread. I wanted to like it. I'm a big fan of the post-apocalyptic genre. I just felt like there were too many holes. You're telling me that ALL of humanity died because it got cold? That there are THAT many bugs on board? That friction hasn't caused wheels to break down or bearings to fail....once, in 17 years?

And, Chris Evans doesn't ever need to be cast in a role that requires him to cry.

After I watched it I was similarly unimpressed... like at the end... no one else on earth alive and that girl and child are suppose to remake humanity in the cold fireless and shelterless?

I suspended all sense of reality with it. Track maintenance? Where were the cows and chickens for all that food?

I just enjoyed "the ride" and that the movie was so different from other genres.

I watched it on netflix.. It was interesting but I remember thinking that it would probably be much better in book form.

Exactly my thoughts on it. lol, sounds idiotic.

Aside from the departure from reality, as GhostTX mentioned, the story itself is more of a struggle among classes of people. As more is exposed, the story gets bit better. They do a good job of limiting your knowledge and keeping you in the perspective of the lowest class. I figured I wouldn't last long when I read the description, but it sucks you in.

You get over a lot of the dumb stuff by just thinking of it as a fantasy setting, in an alternate reality or something.

But to reiterate. I wouldn't call it a great movie.. Wouldn't even go as far as the OP to say it's worth $1.25.. But it's worth watching for free.

You know, I was just thinking about one part I didn't really get. Why did the weird chick pull out her denture when she agreed to help the main guy. Was she offering him a BJ or something? lol

                  one thing i was wondering.

the child at the end that was under the floor. the hand sequence he was doing. that was the same sequence the fake teeth lady did, correct? so she was under the floor at one point and then was able to move out of the back after her service was complete?

I don't think so.. She was too old (train was only running 18 years). And that kid came up only because the part was extinct.

Lol. The "holes" in the movies. Every movie has holes in the plot or background of the story. When I watch a movie I don't go into it thinking it's based on a true story. Even when it says "based on a true story." Actually, especially when it says that.

I thought she was either "disarming" her self (no biting) or trying to present herself as more helpless.

Good call. I can see the helpless part.. Showing a vulnerability. There is certainly a lot of symbolism in the movie.

Yeah, that's what I said....holes. I like a plot to make sense. So, understanding the real world like I do, when they say that the train hasn't stopped running in 17 years I cringe. They're going to get 100k - 200k tops from a wheel.....in good conditions.

For me, the only real interesting part was the classroom. And Tilda Swinton is always awesome.

A similar movie that I feel was done better is City of Ember.
