1. TOOL (One of the only bands that sound better live than on their albums)
Easily my #1. Saw them during the Aenima Tour in Tulsa. Was a "smaller" venue as well. No one can manipulate a crowd better than Keenan. One minute it's crazy as hell. The next minute it's chills down your spine. Also, hands down, the loudest concert I have been to. Had to listen to the radio to get to sleep from all the ringing in my ear.
#2 Metallica - (and on the other end of the "live" spectrum) Saw them in 2000? At the time I had no idea the show was at it's end. But they had the overhead rigging etc. set to appear as if it was collapsing and drop several feet as pyro was exploding. A real wtf moment as they ran off stage. Was a nice touch.
#3 None really. Mostly ultra-talented unsigned acts as I grew out of what the radio tried to tell me was "good". And never looked back.
The first two are two bands that I've seen live that have blown my mind with how they sound so much better live than on their albums:
1.TOOL
2.Darkest Hour
3.Periphery
The third is a band that I love but haven't seen live yet. Periphery is just amazing progressive metal with enough melody to keep non-metal heads interested.
