It's hard for me to pin down favorite bands, there are just so many that I like.
I will say, without question, the best live act EVAR is Metallica. They fucking rock out! They somehow manage to play harder and faster live. Sounds like there are a few others in here that have been lucky enough to see them and feel the same way.
Personally, I think Metallica sucks live. After the Summer Sanitarium I went to, I really have no interest in seeing them live again. They do play harder, and faster, but it sounds like shit IMO.
Tool, by far. I've seen them 9 times. RATM and Black Keys round out my top 3.
KOL used to put on a hell of a show, but I only saw them before they blew up, and I'm not a fan of the most recent album. I saw ZZ Top a few years ago at Nokia, and while the vocals weren't the greatest, the show itself was fantastic. I also saw Against Me! a few weeks ago in Austin, and they put on a good show in a small venue. They played a bunch of their early stuff, which I like better than their later stuff.
Bands I regret not seeing live - Stones, Zeppelin, Beatles, Toadies, AIC (original) White Stripes (big fan of anything Jack White does), and Sublime (original).

But, just like condoms and women's rights, I don't believe in them.

Keep an eye out, you should still be able to see the Toadies sometime. They've been touring semi-regularly since '08. Lately they've been hitting up tiny venues in towns they've never toured before (Waco, Abilene, College Station) and its made for some pretty fucking awesome shows.

Yeah, I've had tickets to Toadies TWICE since they started back up in 08, and given them up to customers both times. Sucks.
