Just days after Marvel showed the strength of its brand with a $94 million haul for “Guardians of the Galaxy,” Warner Bros. has decided to release “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” in 3D on March 25, 2016, avoiding a high-profile showdown with “Captain America 3” on?May 6, 2016.
WB backed down and moved

Oh hell yes.
With Marvel Comics revealing earlier today that they would be rebooting the famed crossover storyline Civil War, we immediately began speculating that the event would bleed into the goings-on in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We suggested that it was possible that Captain America and Iron Man would end up going toe-to-toe at some point down the line, offering up The Avengers 4 as a possibility. It turns out that we may have been way off. It turns out that Civil War may actually be starting in 2016.
Variety has made the epic reveal that Marvel Studios is now in discussions with Robert Downey Jr. to have Iron Man appear in Joe and Anthony Russo's Captain America 3, which is currently scheduled to start production next year. The idea is that the movie will kick-start a huge event in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that will feature Iron Man and Captain America on opposite sides of a debate regarding whether or not superheroes should be forced to register with the United States government. The film will apparently be directly inspired by the Civil War crossover event that began back in 2006 and was written by Mark Millar and drawn by Steve McNiven.
In the past few weeks there has been a lot of talk about Robert Downey Jr. extending his contract with Marvel Studios, but all of it was generated by speculation and false confirmations by Downey Jr. himself (specifically about Iron Man 4). As things stand, the Iron Man star currently only has two more pictures left on his deal with the comic book company, and one of them is already in the can. In addition to starring in The Avengers: Age of Ultron next year, he is also contracted to appear in The Avengers 3 - which will likely land sometime in 2018. These details came out of talks between the actor and studio last year, but apparently both parties are now back at the negotiating table.
So what does this all mean for the future? Is Captain America 3 going to be called Captain America: Civil War? How will it affect all of the other Phase Three movies that are scheduled to come out? Does this mean that we may not see The Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy crossover until way down the line? Does this mean that Marvel Studios really is trying to bring Spider-Man back into the fold, given how he important he is to the Civil War storyline? At this point we have way more questions than answers, but that's all part of the excitement. We can't wait to hear more details and see it all come together.
Captain America 3, which is currently being scripted Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, will be filming next spring and is set to be released on May 6, 2016.

hmm...top secret thoughts below....spoilers
So I am assuming Cap dies bucky takes over and goes after stark.... I know Crossbones, who is in cap 2, plays a big part in Captain Americas downfall and all that happens in or during "civil war" i believe. Also red skull is back involved in civil war too isnt he? This could get really good!

I wonder of the Batman/Superman movie prompted this direction? Regardless, it sounds awesome and I'm really looking forward to seeing what they do with it. Marvel has been doing great work building then destroying their own Universe. It keeps things fresh and interesting, which is pretty much the opposite of what happens in most film franchises. I do think the Ironman/CA roles should be reversed. After the way Stark thumbed his nose at the government hearing Howard Hughes style in IM2, and him being more of a loose cannon, I just don't see him and Rogers being in those positions.. Yet. At any rate, I'm sure it will be great.
There is A LOT of movement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as of late, and today alone has provided us with some huge developments involving the still-under-wraps Captain America 3. Not only did we find out that the Civil War storyline is going to start up with the third (and final?) Captain America film, but also that Spider-Man might be involved in the future. Of course, this was all trumped by the announcement that Robert Downey Jr. will be on hand as Tony Stark in the next Steve Rogers adventure, which not only signals big happenings but also a big pay day. The reported figure is $40 million-plus.
Thanks to Variety, we now have an idea of just how big of a pay day he'll be raking in after his recent negotiations. So how much does it take to hire Robert Downey Jr. for an appearance in a Marvel movie? Well, if the past is any indication, $50 million would be the number to beat. That was the figure Marvel Studios signed over for Downey Jr.'s participation in The Avengers.
Of course, that's not how much Robert Downey Jr. will be banking for Captain America 3, as Variety's sources say he's signed on for a $40 million pay day up front, in exchange for an expansion of his role in the film. Originally, Tony Stark was going to be a bit player in the next Chris Evans led film, but Downey Jr. expressed that he wanted a meatier part in what promises to set Marvel Studios up for the next couple of phases. However there is a way that Iron Man could be bringing home something extra when this is all done and over, as he's reportedly negotiated a portion of the film's backend profits.
In addition to receiving a cut of Captain America 3's profits, there's a clause set in Robert Downey Jr.'s contract that will put him in line for another pay out if the film breaks the franchise's record. So if Captain America 3 exceeds the $714 million total gross that Captain America: The Winter Soldier brought in, Downey Jr. will receive an extra pay out, presumably for making that happen. It's not a bad assumption, as Iron Man is still the highest grossing stand-alone hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the Marvel/Robert Downey Jr. brand is at peak output as we speak.
As far as what Robert Downey Jr. has brought to the table for Marvel Studios, the agreement to pay him in such a manner is well deserved. If his role in Captain America 3 was maintained at the previous level of involvement that was denoted, it could be seen as a bit exorbitant, but seeing as he's now playing an official lead role, he'll be earning every penny. No matter the scenario, Downey Jr. looks like he'll retire/scale back his involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe within the next couple of years. If he wants to go out with a bang, and get paid in the process, he's well earned that right by consistently delivering for Marvel Studios.
No matter how you slice it, Captain America 3 is going to change everything, and if the rumors are true and the stars and stripes align, Joe and Anthony Russo will become the next masters of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with The Avengers 3 and 4 in their care. Captain America 3 breaks the mold on May 6, 2016. Your move, Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

Apparently one of the late scenes in Cap 2 was to set it up. Makes sense.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to change is a massive way. As we learned earlier tonight, Robert Downey Jr. is now in negotiations to star in Joe and Anthony Russo's Captain America 3 - a film that is expected to launch big screen adaptation of the massive 2006 Marvel Comics crossover event known as Civil War. What you may not know, however, is that we have already started to see evidence of this brewing conflict in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
This is a pretty good in depth article about the the coming face off between DC and Marvel in 2016.
It turns out that all of the hullabaloo about Robert Downey Jr. and?Iron Man 4?wasn't quite as simple as we thought. As of last night,?Variety broke the story?that Robert Downey Jr. would be signed for another major Marvel picture. It's not?Iron Man 4. It is?in-fact?Captain America 3, but that's not [...]
I love this stuff, and I never even really read comics growing up.
