  • Guillermo del Toro's The Strain

Did anyone catch the commercial for this during the Super Bowl? Looks pretty interesting and based upon a book he co-wrote.

So no one has seen the trailers for this yet? Just started reading the books (there are 3 of them) and so far it's pretty damn good. Found a video with some of the back story on it for anyone that might be interested.

What Dracula story line?? Sure it's about vampires.. sort of. But having read the book, it's nothing to do with Dracula. Hell the book gets a little religious when discussing the origins of The Strain.

Read the Wiki when you get a chance.

So the plane lands at JFK and taxis towards the terminal and stops and goes dark. No lights or communications, engines are off, and all the window shades are drawn except for one. airport security calls everybody in thinking it's terrorism but eventually let CDC in to take a look. Two people go in to find everybody is dead. Whatever took place on the place happened so fast that it doesn't appear anybody panicked and they almost pass for being asleep. Someone shines a UV light and there are signs of bodily fluids (not sure if it was supposed to be blood or not) everywhere. 4 people on the plain than wake up and CDC put them in quarantine.

In the book, they build the tension up a lot better in this scene with a single guy going out to the plane (think he was handling luggage) to investigate. I think it starts with all the windows being closed and than one opens. He climbs onto the wing to look in and sees the bodies just sitting there silently. Than the door to the plane opens a bit and he high tails it out of there and calls it in.

don't know yet, but there are these little worms that will attach to you and try go into your skin. this happened towards the end of the 1st episode, and at the same time all the dead people at the morgue come alive and eat the doctor that was trying to find out what happen to the people.

also towards the end they show the crazy old man they introduce has a heart in a jar, opens it up and prick his finger, drops blood in it, and those little worms start to come out of the heart and feed on the blood.

                        show looks promising so far

Just calling it the way the show was televised, not the way it was in the book (which I havent read)

Abraham Setrakian (the old guy ) is Abraham Van Helsing (first names are even the same)
Dr. Ephraim Goodweather is kind of Jonathan Harker
                          the Master is Dracula
The evil corporation and vampire (the guy whose eyes flash and has no breath) takes the place of Renfield

In Dracula (specifically Nosferatu) he comes to England via the boat in the coffin carrying the soil. Upon arrival the boat is noted to be carrying some sort of plague.

The 2 thugs come to Setrakian knowing he buys silver no real questions asked. He takes the silver and the gun, but not the bullets. Why because he makes his own silver bullets and silver blade.

The vampire has 3 rules for the transporting the box (and the master) when combined the last two are it must be across the bridge (IE across water) before dawn. Supposedly vampires cant cross bodies of water on their own, and well we know what sunlight does to alot of other vampires.

Just google strain and dracula and you can see alot of people making the connection.

They try to explain that the vampire legend was actually due to a parasite.

Never read the book. But in the book they explain the vampire legend was due to the parasites that are in the movie. Hell with the quality of TV shows and movies lately, at least these vampires aren't in love with werewolves or what not.
