  • Grand Prix 1966

I'm almost embarrassed I hadn't seen this movie until today. It's a long one clocking in at almost 3 hours, but well worth it. No CGI bullshit, just badass 1960's race cars at real race car speed(150+). Directed by John Frankenheimer who went on to make Ronin towards the end of his life, this thing is just balls out spectacular with the audio and cinematography. Rush looks like Clerks compared to this movie, and it is far superior to LeMans. The non-race scenes can be a tad tedious, but they seem to ring true to the era. Get a huge TV and surround sound and be amazed. The opening at Monaco alone is worth it. I wish that CGI would be outlawed in car movies.

Fucking a right. Grand Prix is it as far as racing movies go.

If you remember Matt/Strychnine's post a few months ago about the BRM V-16 race cars, then this short scene should sound familiar.
