I thought Elysium absolutely sucked. A thin and pretentious plot along with uncharacteristic god awful acting from Jodie Foster. A lot of movies are allegorical, but this movie was flat out propaganda for the liberal agenda. Hard to enjoy a movie like this in spite of it's technically good A/V presentation.

Any movie, book, tv show, game, etc with magic in it fucking sucks.

I tend to agree. The only exception I've gotten into was the Harry Potter books. They were just fantastically well written. Aside from those, I don't think my entire library contains a single other book with "magic" in it, unless it's some Stephen King I've forgotten about.

I have never done any "CGI" in my life, other than microsoft paint. I'm certain I could have done a better job than the clowns in that movie.

It was fucking awful.

This alone ruined it for me.

So you can't put aside logic for 2 hours and just enjoy a story even though it is entirely impossible?

I get that "magic" is hokey and unbelievable. It isn't a deterrent to stop me from enjoying an entertaining movie.

But who the fuck watches Harry Potter or the LOTR series or anything like it and tries to pick it apart and point out how that's impossible and can't really happen?

Isn't that the point of those kind of movie's? To make the impossible possible? Even if its still only a movie.

It sounds to me you like a specific "style" or visual for Scifi. You don't care for the glitzy glamour side and would rather see a true interpretation of what things may actually be like.

Read the first third of the first Harry Potter book then put it down and never looked back. Watched the first lord of the rings movie, and it fucking sucked. Randall's explanation of it in Clerks 2 is accurate

It's true. I really liked how in the new ones they were busy ripping off The 5th Element!
