  • Better Call Saul

    Sweet.

The first season of “Better Call Saul” is coming to Netflix.

The “Breaking Bad” spinoff will be available to U.S. and Cananda’s subscribers following its first season finale on AMC next year, the streaming service and Sony Pictures Television announced on Monday. The deal also covers overseas’ rights. The new series will be available exclusively on Netflix in Europe and Latin America shortly after U.S. airings begin in 2014.

Starring Bob Odenkirk and co-created and executive produced by “Breaking Bad” creator Vince Gilligan, “Better Call Saul” tells the story of mall-based super lawyer Saul Goodman in the years before he became Walter White’s attorney. From parking tickets to mass murder, from slip-and-falls to bond fraud, Saul handles it all.

Netflix already has a long history with Saul. The streaming service currently carries all five seasons of “Breaking Bad,” and was recognized by Gilligan at the 2013 Emmy Awards for reviving the series in the United Kingdom, where it was cancelled on television after just three seasons.

The Emmy-winning drama launched on Netflix after the conclusion of Season 3, and became one of the most popular programs with subscribers.

“Coming off of the overwhelming success of ‘Breaking Bad,’ we’re excited to continue our collaboration with Vince, as well as Peter Gould, and that fans around the world will be able to embrace ‘Saul,’” Steve Mosko, president of Sony Pictures Television, said in a statement.

I've read articles here and there regarding how BB actors want to be involved in this new show. The latest is Aaron Paul joining the show as Pinkman. I dunno, IMO if they start reintroducing characters like this it'll be more of a parody than a spinoff.

I'll watch too, but no way it will live up to BB.

It'll be like American Horror story, same actors, different roles/storyline. Maybe...

I'm all for a spinoff with Saul Goodman. I could never get enough of his character, but use new people and development for fucks sake.

'Better Call Saul' to be filmed in Albuquerque

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — A "Breaking Bad" spinoff on Walter White's shady attorney, "Better Call Saul," will be filmed in Albuquerque, the New Mexico Film Office announced Wednesday.

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — A "Breaking Bad" spinoff on Walter White's shady attorney, "Better Call Saul," will be filmed in Albuquerque, the New Mexico Film Office announced Wednesday.

In a statement, officials said that the TV series will be shot at Albuquerque Studios — which was home to the six-year run of "Breaking Bad" — and the production will employ at least 75 to 90 New Mexico crewmembers.

"We welcome this incredible production team back to the state," said Nick Maniatis, director of the state's film office. "They have proven to be excellent partners with the city of Albuquerque and the state of New Mexico."

Mayor Richard Berry said the city enthusiastically welcomes back Sony and AMC-TV after the popularity of "Breaking Bad." The show sparked tourism in Albuquerque as visitors sought popular sites from the show.

"Given the tremendous acclaim associated with Vince Gilligan's productions, we are thrilled to learn that 'Better Call Saul' will be filmed in Albuquerque," Berry said.

The new series will follow sleazy attorney Saul Goodman, played by Bob Odenkirk, as he defends drug lords, petty criminals and those allegedly injured in minor traffic accident.

"Breaking Bad," which ended last year, followed former high school teacher Walter White, played by Bryan Cranston, producing methamphetamine with a former student, Jesse Pinkman, played by Aaron Paul.

Odenkirk played the pair's attorney who came up with money-laundering schemes.

The network has created a website for the fictional lawyer, bettercallsaul.com, with Saul Goodman's signature videos boasting how he can get anyone out of legal trouble.

                          Good News/ Minor Bad News.

One of the shows we've been most excited about this year is the Breaking Bad spinoff Better Call Saul, and it appears AMC feels the same way: it's ordered a second season of the show before it has even debuted. The show focuses on the shady lawyer Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) that helped Walter White in the original show, and was scheduled for a 10-episode run for its first season. AMC is upping that for the second season, which will feature 13 episodes. The pilot, which began shooting earlier this month in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is being directed by Breaking Bad series mastermind Vince Gilligan.

Unfortunately for fans of the Goodman character, AMC is also pushing the show's debut date. Saul was originally targeted for release later this year, but AMC is now set to debut the show in the first quarter of 2015 (the second season will follow in the same timeframe in 2016). Better Call Saul is a Breaking Bad reunion on several fronts; Gilligan is running the show along with Peter Gould (center in the photo above), who created the Goodman character as a writer on Breaking Bad. Thomas Schnauz and Gennifer Hutchison, both of which worked on the original series, are part of the writing staff as well.

"Production on Better Call Saul is underway and we could not be more proud of nor more excited about the work to date," AMC president Charlie Collier said in a statement. "We have a strong history with Vince, Peter, Bob, the studio, and so many involved with this production; we are enjoying the process on Saul and all share a focus on making it a true television event. No half measures." Of course, there is still no word if Walter White and Jesse Pinkman will be making an appearance, something Bad fans would undoubtedly be happy to see.

                              Kick ass!

Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul is now shooting in Albuquerque, and, even before the first season has premiered, US cable channel AMC has renewed the show for a second. Now, according to co-creator and executive producer Peter Gould, the show – originally thought to be a straight prequel about sleazy lawyer Saul Goddman (Bob Odenkirk) – will jump around in time and could therefore feature more appearances from the likes of Bryan Cranston.

Talking to the New York Daily News, Gould explained the reasoning: “One of the great things about having a time line which is flexible is that perhaps some of it takes place before Breaking Bad, during Breaking Bad, and after Breaking Bad. That gives us the ability to bring back characters that were killed on the show.”

But while the chance to feature more of Walter White, Jesse Pinkman and other favourite characters alongside Saul is a tasty one, all involved – including Breaking Bad overlord Vince Gilligan – want the new series to live up to the original show.

“We want to make a show that stands on it own, is its own story and is a brand extension. “We think we have a story that is worth making. We could never dream of the kind of success that Breaking Bad had and the love we got from the fans. But with Saul at a certain point you have to do the best job you can and tell the best story that entertains you, get a good response and hope people like it.”

The first season will arrive next year, followed by the second in 2016, with Odenkirk as Saul and Jonathan Banks as fixer Mike Ehrmantraut, and Michael McKean will play a new character named Dr. Thurber.
