EXCLUSIVE: Even though Stephen Lang‘s Col. Miles Quaritch character seemed to have run his course in 20th Century Fox’s Avatar, director James Cameron has revealed that Lang is not only returning for the sequel, he’s going to be part of the next three films. It sounds like he’s the closest thing to a mix between Star Wars‘ Darth Vader and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator character. “Steven was so memorable in the first film, we’re privileged to have him back,” Cameron said. “I’m not going to say exactly how we’re bringing him back, but it’s a science fiction story, after all. His character will evolve into really unexpected places across the arc of our new three-film saga. I really look forward to working with such a gifted actor, who’s also become a good friend.”

Cameron has been working out brainy plot details throughout his career — how many times has the time travel concept from the original Terminator film been swiped over the years — so I’ll bet he’s come up with something thrilling. As for Lang, he’s been turning in memorable performances since going back to the Michael Mann TV series Crime Story and in character roles in films like White Irish Drinkers. Good on Lang, who’s repped by Innovative.

Deadline revealed that Cameron was going to shoot three movies one after the other, and that he had set War Of The Worlds scribe Josh Friedman to write one, Rise Of Planet Of The Apes’ Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver to write another and Salinger writer-director Shane Salerno to script the third in what is the most ambitious production schedule since Peter Jackson shot The Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit trilogies in succession.

Obviously the Colonel from the first movie was an avatar. It's just the Deus Ex Machina plot device. They're probably going to have the technology that makes it possible break down somehow, so he'll have to put his real body in jeopardy. Weeeeeaaaak.

I went in with pretty low expectations and ended up loving it. Good story, not as preachy as you might think, incredible visuals. I mean REALLY incredible.

                  Cool!

It would have been weird if they didn't reprise their roles in the franchise launched by the most successful box office performer of all time.

Sam Worthington and Zoë Saldana are indeed locked in for all three "Avatar" sequels, 20th Century Fox announced on Tuesday. Yes, James Cameron has officially cast his leading man and woman... again.

That ties both actors to the franchise through the 2018 release of "Avatar 4." Whoa. These are two very committed thespians.

Worthington will reprise his role as wounded former Marine Jake Sully; and Saldana will again be the blue creature of Pandora, Neytiri.

"Jake Sully is rare combination of passion, strength, street smarts and soul, which requires a lot from an actor," Cameron said via Fox's press release. "Sam brought to the role a combination of sensitivity, vulnerability and strength. Zoë captured every aspect of the character I envisioned, bringing to Neytiri a mix of delicacy, fierceness and incredible physicality. I am beyond pleased they¹ll be returning with us to Pandora."

Cameron is also bringing on a group of screenwriters to see his vision through to the fourth installment. He has hired Josh Friedman ("War of the Worlds"), Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver ("Rise of the Planets of the Apes"), and Shane Salerno ("Savages," "Salinger").

Having made $2.8 billion worldwide, 2009's "Avatar" remains the highest grossing film of all time. It won three Oscars and two Golden Globe Awards.

"Avatar 2" is scheduled to fly into theaters in Dec. 2016.

I have a feeling 2 will flop horribly. Hopefully they don't gross more than the budget.

They need to reboot a human Jake, like in the Sixth Day, and pit him against Avatar Jake.

Avatar = Dances with Wolves... In outer space!

But it was still a good flick.
"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man." - Thomas Jefferson, 1776
