  • The Monuments Men

WW2 with Bill Fucking Murray, George Clooney, Matt Damon, and John Goodman. Looks like it could be pretty good. Not your typical ww2 movie.

      Looks interesting.
Half of history is hiding the past.

This movie was pretty damn flat. I blame it on the directing. Several brilliant actors with no acting to be done, Bill Murray's Dentist scene was done 500 times better in the 80's with Little Shop of Horrors. The only thing really compelling about it was the story itself, which was enough to keep me interested thankfully. This was a history story that needed to be told, I just wish they would have done more with it. I don't know if they had a really small budget or what, but the whole thing overall was very underwhelming for what should have been greatness. I'd give it 2.5 stars out of 5. Really had high hopes for this one.

Yup. That is why I liked the movie.

I'm about an hour into the movie and so far it has failed to hold my interest.

yep, watched it 2 nights ago and was less than impressed, especially with the cast.

I enjoyed the film and am glad that these individuals (there were many) are getting the recognition they deserve. As an active participant in the care and handling of art, I fully respect the efforts that were made under the worst conditions imaginable. I thought the casting was great. Yes, the movie is slow. It's not Saving Private Ryan. This was methodical work done by curators, professors, and clergymen. Not the fast paced action type.

The story is what is compelling. If anyone wants to watch a great documentary on the subject, I urge you to check out "The Rape of Europa". It's available to stream on Netflix.

It's also worth noting that the movie was largely backed by a gentleman from Dallas. In fact, the Monuments Men Foundation is located in Dallas across from the Dallas Contemporary.

about 20-30 minutes, i turned it off.
Boring, slow, and a waste of the 5 minutes it took to download it.
If I wanted something to develop this slow, I'd read a book instead. Then again, some books pick up faster than this movie.

I went into this movie not really knowing what to expect. BFM is what peaked my interest in seeing it. I was actually pleasantly surprised. I loved the story. As has been stated, it's pretty much the untold story of WWII.
