  • James Bond #24

Sam Mendes decided to return as director and D. Craig is locked in for at least 2 more movies. Awesome. Looks like the next two might be connected to each other too, which I like.

Skyfall managed to do more than commemorate the James Bond franchise’s 50th anniversary in $TYLE, between it grossing $1 billion worldwide and securing two Oscars for its efforts. The film also introduced the 21st century versions of 007′s famous helping hands – MI6 head secretary Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) and techno-invention wizard ‘Q’ (Ben Whishaw) – in addition to (SPOILER?) introducing Ralph Fiennes as the new ‘M’, who will serve as the boss for Daniel Craig’s Bond on future missions.

Craig will be returning to star in the upcoming 24th James Bond movie installment (his Skyfall costars are expected to join him), as will Skyfall director Sam Mendes – who, after much deliberation while he took a break from moviemaking to work in the world of theater stage production, decided to accept the Bond series producers’ offers for him to call the shots on the 24th Bond flick.

It’s a bit early to to expect any concrete details on the story and new characters that will be featured in Bond 24, as Skyfall co-screenwriter John Logan is still plugging away at the film’s script right now. However, Craig did offer the following tease to Vulture, with regard to what he’s planning (or, rather, hoping) for in the movie, tone-wise:

“Hopefully we’ll reclaim some of the old irony, and make sure it doesn’t become pastiche. I can’t do shtick, I’m not very good at it. Unless it kind of suddenly makes sense. Does that make sense? I sometimes wish I hammed it up more, but I just can’t do it very well, so I don’t do it.”

Filming on Bond 24 will be underway by the beginning of next year, after Craig and his significant other – Academy Award-winning actress Rachel Weisz – finish a fourteen-week run of performing in a fresh Broadway revival of Harold Pinter’s play Betrayal (with Mike Nichols directing). At that point, we’ll know for certain whether or not there’s any truth to those rumors about Penelope Cruz portraying 007′s latest female partner in the film; not to mention, who’s playing the dastardly villain, this time around.

By the sound of it, Craig is hoping that Bond 24 strikes a tone that’s more similar to Casino Royale than his prior two outings as the Bond character. Quantum of Solace, for example, shows us a vengeful 007 seeking personal payback in a story with darker (read: post-9/11) political overtones, whereas Skyfall is more about establishing Bond’s enduring relevancy – both literally (in the context of the film’s setting) and metaphorically, as a pop cultural icon.

By comparison, Casino Royale is the sole Craig-starring Bond flick so far to have incorporated just enough of the old-school Bond playfulness (read: “irony”) without going overboard; while, at the same time, successfully updating the character for the new century (unlike the final Pierce Brosnan/007 installment, Die Another Day). Following that train of logic, Craig’s suggestion doesn’t sound like a bad idea, in part because that approach would help to give Bond 24 a more unique identity – and distinguish the movie from Mendes’ Dark Knight-inspired take on the Bond franchise with Skyfall.

Did you not watch Skyfall? Haven't really seen any paranormal tendencies in previous Bond movies...

I hate to see her go, but she is starting to look REAAALLLLLYYY old. I'd hate to see them write the story and/or start filming something with her and have to scratch it if anything were to happen to her.

Yea but the way it went down in the movie was terrific, but I kinda saw that coming.

I think any Bond fan saw the set up of what was coming in Skyfall, but that was fine, it was executed well. Better than having some out of left field bullshit poorly written in. The new M is already well established, has been in a gunfight, has talked forcefully to Bond, establishing him as a superior, and approved of off the books methods of getting results. Was good to see him integrated throughout an entire movie instead of just thrown in at the end.

This has some great potential. I'd love to see Blofeld back since technically all the new Bond movies are in a new cannon since Casino Royale. Not to mention Quantum in Quantum of Solace was very similar to SPECTRE.

It has long been speculated that iconic 007 villain Blofeld (originated by Anthony Dawson in From Russia with Love and later personified by Donald Pleasence in You Only Live Twice) and his evil organization SPECTRE will be returning in Bond 24. That's a little closer to happening, now that MGM has won a fifty year legal battle with the Kevin McClory estate, which reverts the rights for these characters back to the studio.

At this time, there has been no confirmation from the studio that either Blofeld or SPECTRE will show up in Bond 24, which stars Daniel Craig and is being helmed by Skyfall's Sam Mendes.

Yesterday, MGM and Danjag announced that they now have all the rights and interests to the franchise once held by Kevin McClory and his estate. McClory helped craft the screenplay for Thunderball in the late 50s, though the film didn't see the screen until 1965, after Blofeld and SPECTRE had already made their appearance, with SPECTRE showing up in the 1962 franchise debut Dr. No.

It is Kevin McClory who claims to have created these, and a number of other characters for the long running series, which now spans six decades. He is also credited for giving the characters a more 'movie-friendly' persona. At this time, no details of the settlement have been released to the public. The settlement came sometime in the last two weeks.

The case originated in 1961, when McClory sued Bond creator Ian Fleming, winning partial copyright to Thunderball's story. A settlement was reached in 1963, and the movie eventually came out in 1965. Since that time, McClory's estate has gone head-to-head with MGM and producers in a number of court battles. In 1983, Kevin joined Warner Bros., using his Thunderball rights to bring Sean Connery back to the big screen as 007 in Never Say Never Again. He intended to start his own Bond franchise, but Sony countersued, and that never came to fruition.

McClory passed away in 2006, though his estate continued to fight for the rights to his characters and story ideas. Now that MGM has finally won, it isn't clear how they will move ahead with these new story elements. This could make for a Bond 24 that plays as a direct homage to the original films in the canon. Something Skyfall slyly hinted at.
Bond 24 comes to theaters November 6th, 2015 and stars Ralph Fiennes, Daniel Craig, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw. The film is directed by Sam Mendes.

                    Loosely based remakes. Ok.

                    All other remakes. Not ok.

Filming is starting soon. Just a bit over a year before it's in theaters.

After years of success in the wrestling industry, Dave Bautista is now starting to find some extreme success in Hollywood. This past summer he was part of the ensemble that made up James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy - playing Drax The Destroyer and doing so tremendously well. Obviously having an important role in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is pretty huge, but now rumors say that Bautista may have a part in one of the biggest movie franchises of all time.

Inside sources have told the folks at Latino-Review that Dave Bautista has landed a key henchman role in the upcoming, untitled Bond 24. If their sources are to be believed, he will be playing a character named Hinx, who is described as being "in the mold" of classic 007 villains like Jaws and Oddjob. The site has a casting breakdown of what the production was looking for in an actor, and Bautista really fits it to a T:

"We are looking to follow in the tradition of JAWS and ODDJOB in finding an iconic baddy.

                      "Hinx (Male, 30 – 45)"

"Ideally over 6? 2?. Hinx is the main henchman/assassin. We are looking for an imposing extremely physically fit actor. He has several fights with Bond and will have to have stunt training. He has to drive. We are looking for someone very unusual, possibly from a sports background."

                      "Height: 180cm – 195cm""

At this time, not much is known about Bond 24, but this is the second big piece of casting news we've heard in the last week. On Friday it was reported that Blue Is The Warmest Color's Lea Seydoux will be playing the newest Bond girl opposite Daniel Craig's 007, the actress following in the footsteps of Eva Green (Casino Royale), Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace), and Bérénice Marlohe/Naomi Harris (Skyfall). Sam Mendes is attached to direct the movie, according to the new rumor, production will begin on December 6th. Reports have revealed that filming will take place in England (more specifically at Pinewood Studios) and locations in Austria, Rome and Morocco.

If this rumor turns out to be true, it doesn't sound like Dave Bautista is going to becoming a major player in the future of the Bond franchise, but it is a solid role for him to get. In Guardians of the Galaxy he proved himself to be a talented, entertaining actor who could do a good job playing a rather strange character. He showed an interesting amount of range, and it would be interesting to see him try to do something similar in Bond 24. Plus, this gig gives him something to do between now and the start of production on Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (which is still a couple years away).

Bond 24 will be in theaters November 6, 2015.

                          Oh hell yes!

Christoph Waltz, the two-time Oscar-winning actor, has jumped on board the 007 Express.

He will play a ‘significant’ role in the untitled Bond 24 movie that will begin filming early next month.

However, I am told that the part is a complex one. ‘It’s not immediately evident whether the part’s friend, or foe, or a bit of both,’ a person who has knowledge of the screenplay told me.

Although someone else on the production let slip that the character Waltz has signed up for is ‘extremely cunning’. ‘A nemesis of sorts,’ they continued.
So will Waltz be the movie’s big bad guy?

Daniel Craig will return to play 007 in the new Bond film Spectre and Aston Martin will return as the Bondmobile with this custom Aston Martin DB10. The car was developed specifically for and they're building ten of them, just none that you can buy.
