The long-untitled "Man of Steel" sequel has officially been titled: "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" -- "v," not "vs." -- as reported by Variety.
Principal photography starts today in Detroit. As noted by Variety, the use of "Justice" in the title certainly further suggests that the film -- which includes Henry Cavill in his return outing as Superman, Ben Affleck debuting as Batman, Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman and Ray Fisher as Cyborg in both characters' first live-action feature film appearances -- will function heavily as a "Justice League" prelude. It was confirmed late last month that "Man of Steel" and "Batman v Superman" director Zack Snyder would also helm a "Justice League" film, following the "Man of Steel" sequel.
A "Man of Steel" sequel starring both Superman and Batman was first announced last July at Comic-Con International in San Diego. Last week, Snyder released the first look at Affleck in the film's Batsuit via Twitter.
"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is scheduled for release on May 6, 2016, and also stars "Man of Steel" returnees Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Laurence Fishburne (Perry White) and Diane Lane (Martha Kent), plus Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor), Jeremy Irons (Alfred) and Holly Hunter in an as-yet unspecified role, said in a press release to be "newly created for the film."
Warner Bros.' full press release follows.
CAMERAS ROLL ON DIRECTOR ZACK SNYDER’S "BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE" FROM WARNER BROS. PICTURES
Principal photography is underway in Metro Detroit, Michigan
BURBANK, CA, May 21, 2014 – Filming is underway on Warner Bros. Pictures' "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," the highly anticipated action adventure from director Zack Snyder, starring Henry Cavill in the role of Clark Kent/Superman, and Ben Affleck as BruceWayne/Batman.
"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" also stars Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane returning from "Man of Steel," Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, and Holly Hunter in a role newly created for the film.
"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is written by Chris Terrio, from a screenplay by David S. Goyer. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Wesley Coller, David S. Goyer and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers.
Principal photography will take place on location at Michigan Motion Picture Studios and on location in and around Detroit, Michigan; Illinois; Africa; and the South Pacific.
Set to open worldwide on May 6, 2016, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is based on Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster, Batman characters created by Bob Kane, and Wonder Woman created by William Moulton Marston, appearing in comic books published by DC Entertainment.
Not too clever using "Justice" so it ties into the Justice League movie. Well seems like they made some minor modifications.
Here's a side by side comparison:

Plus new additional villains rumored, spoilers in the article.
The title reveals that Batman and Superman are going to fight in their upcoming film, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. But with two heroes like that in the same movie, they film is gonna need some bad guys, too. We already know about the powerful Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) but if Zack Snyder and David Goyer are bringing in additional members of the Justice League (Cyborg, Aquaman, Wonder Woman) you’d think there might be some other villains, right?
According to Latino Review, that’s exactly the case. They reveal three new villains — smaller, but important ones — will be in Zack Snyder’s 2016 sequel. We’ll reveal their identities after the jump.
Latino Review says the following three characters are bad guys in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Victor Zsasz, a serial killer with a penchant for knives, and a habit of carving his kill tally into his own body. Zsasz first appeared in comics in the early ’90s, and was seen in Batman Begins. He’s also in the recent video games Arkham Asylum and Arkham City.
Morgan Edge, who has been around in comics since the ’70s, and rebooted a few times, generally as a media mogul or pundit, but also as part of the alien-powered mob organization Intergang. The current comics version is the owner of the Daily Planet, with some qualities seemingly inspired by the News International phone hacking scandal.
David Cain, an assassin who first appeared in comics in the late ’90s, and who helped train young Bruce Wayne and has been an associate of Ra’s al Ghul and the League of Assassins.
There’s also a mention of a “very powerful antagonist” who has yet to be mentioned or cast. (Anyone want to put bets on it being Doomsday? Or, as previously rumored, Darkseid could show up, as suggested by the presence of Morgan Edge, to lead in to Justice League.)
The story breaks down how each one of the characters fits into the story, too, which suggests a much more intimate knowledge of the story than most of us have. If this is true – and it sounds likely – the following info should be considered spoiler.
According to LR, the film versions of the characters will be as follows. Zsasz fights Batman early in the film. Edge is LexCorp’s PR guy and has some verbal debates with Lois Lane. (LR suggests this could be Scoot McNairy’s role.) Cain meets up with Luthor to talk about a potential assassination. The site also mentions that Senator Amanda Waller is in the film, as well.
If this is true, and it certainly sounds plausible, it seems like Snyder and crew are using DC characters wherever they can in the story just to start building up the DC Universe. We figured that from the whole Justice League angle, but this new info helps fill out what we know about the movie.Originally posted by talismanI wonder if there will be a new character that specializes in bjj and passive agressive comebacks?Originally posted by AdamLXIf there was, I wouldn't pick it because it would probably just keep leaving the game and then coming back like nothing happened.Originally posted by BroncojohnnyBecause fuck you, that's whyOriginally posted by 80coupenice dick, Idrivea4bangerOriginally posted by Rick Modena......and idrivea4banger is a real person.Originally posted by JesterMan ive always wanted to smoke a bowl with you.
