I'm with you, I think this season has been refreshingly good. The show is better when Hank is up to shenanigans.

Absolutely. The added bonus is getting a lot of background filled in.

lulz @ Marcy and the "Bloody little Girlscout." I've noticed through the years that every episode that gets all of the characters together for a dinner or party always ends in total fucking anarchy. Pretty good season finale. Without a doubt my favorite season since the first.

                Runkle is the shit.

I think Mr. Moody goes back to NY. Anyone else have any predictions on next season?

I was curious if he was driving off to find Karen in the RV, myself. It will be tough to top this one.

Season 4 ep 10 is one of the best of the series. So many hilarious lines.

Yeah, geez, I feel like mustangguy289 for asking that and then doing a google search, even though I did at least look about a week ago.. lmao @ Samurai Apocalypse. Looks like it has potential.

A week into 2012 will bring Californication back to Showtime, once more highlighting the booze-filled antics of writer Hank Moody (David Duchovny) and how his quest for self-destruction leads to a seemingly endless parade of lovely women and enviable gigs working with some of the most deranged personalities in and around the entertainment industry.

This time around, season 5 will see Hank’s many talents converge once more on the music industry. Though unlike season 2 of Californication, which featured a memorable performance from Callum Keith Rennie (Battlestar Galactica, The Killing), as legendary rock producer Lew Ashby, Mr. Moody will be summoned by the hip-hop world – namely rapper-turned-actor Samurai Apocalypse, played by The RZA (Django Unchained). Who would like to bet whether or not the name Samurai Apocalypse originated from RZA?

It’s unclear what Samurai Apocalypse wants with Hank, but from the video below it seems to focus on what he believes to be a star-making vehicle in the faux film Santa Monica Cop. Perhaps Samurai feels Hank’s continual run-ins with the police have granted him unique insight into the world of law enforcement and therefore extends an offer for some script doctoring. Whatever the business side of Hank and Samurai’s relationship, it looks like a woman – namely Kali (Meagan Good) – may come between them.
Rounding out the guest stars will be Tyler (Scott Michael Foster), as a new love interest for the nearly grown-up Becca (Madeleine Martin) – who apparently is attracted to men with personality quirks similar to her father’s.

Finally, Drea de Matteo (Sons of Anarchy) will join the season as the foul-mouthed stripper Holly. Let’s hope her mouth doesn’t get her into too much trouble, so Matteo can avoid being Adriana-ed like she was in the The Sopranos.

Of course, the regular cast of Natascha McElhone, Evan Handler and frequent Louie guest-star Pamela Adlon will all return – as will the ubiquitous Stephen Tobolowsky, who joined the cast last season.

At first, Californication played out like a raunchy comedy centered on a cirrhosis-prone, but well-intentioned, family man who just can’t seem to get his act together. Since then, however, the show has taken on a more farcical nature, utilizing guest stars to help skewer the entertainment industry and the individuals that comprise it. Last season, Rob Lowe’s performance as the Brad Pitt-esque Eddie Nero hilariously elevated the mockery from a simple rib-jab to a slap in the face.

Since Tobolowsky’s movie producer Stu Baggs is back for season 5, here’s hoping the Hollywood send-up will continue to be elevated.

Californication season 5 premieres January 8 on Showtime.
