It was a phenomenal show IMHO. I've seen Rush about 5-7 times over the last 25+ years and they sounded better last night than they have in a while. I usually don't like it when an old band plays a lot of their new album in concert, but I was plesantly surprized last night. They mixed in enough of the the oldies and at the right times to make it very enjoyable. The video at intermission and at the conclusion of the show was very well done and pretty damn funny. It was a damn good night. These aren't great, but here are a few pics I took last night.

This is probably my favorite one I took:

What are the props on Geddy's side? I see a popcorn machine, but can't tell what the other stuff is. Horns? Steampunk bullshit?

The chicken rotisseries with the chef coming out and basting the chickens every so often has been my favorite so far. That was about 10 years ago I guess.
How do we forget ourselves? How do we forget our minds?

The popcorm machine, a big jar/tank with a brain in it, horns and all kinds of weird looking very old TV screens - all of it steampunk style. During the show a guy in a chicken costume walked on stage for a couple of min and just walked off - very random. Then at the conclusion of the show when they played the end of the intermission video, a guy in that same costume was in the very last scene and said the last line. Odd, but not for Rush.

When exactly was their prime? I'm nearing 40 and I don't think I've ever heard a single Rush song.

Not sure if serious, but most people consider the 76-82 years to be their prime. Some go so far as to say 76-84 (me). Their new album is just as good as anything put out in those years in my opinion.

The Spirit of Radio, Freewill, Tom Sawyer, Working Man, Trees, Red Barchetta, Subdivisions, Closer to the Heart and 2112 are probably their most known songs. You've heard more than one, I promise.

There are two things that are generally required to be a Rush fan:

                          1. You're a nerd
                          2. You have a healthy appreciation for musicianship and general musicality

Their music isn't as cerebral as, say, modal jazz, but it's pretty heady for rock music and that turns a lot of people off or they just don't 'get' it. Nothing wrong with that, I guess.

And if you wouldn't be caught dead playing an air instrument in public, you definitely don't have the capacity to really enjoy Rush.

That may be the best description of Rush fans I've ever seen. I went to the concert with 7 other guys, only 2 of us weren't professional muscians. A lot of the people I know that love Rush play some sort of instrument, either casually or in a band. I think part of the reason why a high percentage of fans are nerds is that Rush's songs generally have more complex lyrics.

We met up with Corby from the Ticket at the show and he HATED it! Then again, his favorite bands are Grateful Dead, Pearl Jam and Wide Spread Panic, so what do you expect from him?
