Not nearly as good as the book was, but I thought it was still a pretty good movie, and one of the better zombie movies. It is not an action movie, by the way. I think it will end up being a good series when they finish the story with part 2 (or 3 if they are doing a trilogy). The movie vs the book kind of reminded me of Jurassic Park (though the JP book and movie still blow WWZ away). They both had the same basic plot, but ended up being different stories.

I still think WWZ on film would have been a better if HBO or AMC had done a mini series that was exactly like the book, with each interview being an episode, but at least this wasn't another remake or prequel.
Since you brought up the nukes.. I've been wondering. I know nothing about military aviation and not much of aviation period but why did the C130 not just fall out of the sky when they got hit by the EMP I'm assuming disconnected his call? Are they equipped with countermeasures to EMPs, like some sort of electrical equipment shielding?

    • I knew it was going to be a Redbox movie. Glad I didn't go spend a small fortune to go see it.

Now the debate for me is spend a $1.00 for regular DVD or $1.50 for Blu-ray?

An effective EMP blast requires the gamma rays of a nuclear explosion bounce off of the earth surface and then to be reflected back by other gamma waves. For this reason an EMP caused by a nuke is limited in range, especially those that explode at ground level. There are specifically built high altitude nukes when a lager emp blast is needed.

Most modern vehicles, including civilian vehicles, have shielded cables to avoid from voltage interference caused by alternators, radios/speakers, etc. and they will protect from most emps.

          • I saw this the other night and really liked it. It was just a different take on the zombie theme but kind of refreshing.

            • Saw it last night. Liked it. Probably best that I've never read the book.

                  • Yep, also add "I am Legend" to the lists of books better than the movies. I did enjoy the original movie though it may be boring for some, they lost the whole meaning of the title.

                    • I've only read part of the book so I had no expectations (the book was sorta slow for me). That being said, I enjoyed the movie but it had plenty of over the top moments. I think the video that Downs shared was pretty spot on. Still enjoyed it but not realistic enough, if you can say that about a zombie movie. I think the Dawn of the Dead remake has been the best of the genre so far.

That was the most blatant and shitty product placement I have ever seen. I mean fucking seriously? The dude casually puts coins into a pepsi machine (happens to have pound-sterling coins) and just takes his sweet time drinking it.

I don't recall seeing him put coins in the machine.
