            LMAO, exactly.

I think it has to be a good thing for star wars. If the prequels taught me anything, it's that just because it's out there and it's bad, doesn't mean it tarnishes the good stuff, and there are even aspects of those that I like. That said, I think just about any real star wars fan that's creative could write better story and dialog than George can at this point.

Still, feels weird. He's been "The Creator" for 35 years. Even if it turns out to be a good thing, it's a disturbance in the force for sure.

I like the idea of Disney taking the lore to a new place, with the Lucas arts folks still in place to handle continuity, etc.

I think it takes the franchise to a new place marketing wise, with amusement park rides, more animated series, and even television in live action to fill in story lines, etc.

I think Lucas realized that it was stagnant in its current place and needed someone to market It into the next era.

I'll agree that the bad doesn't take away from the good, but I've got an issue with him revising the original movies. They were fine as they were.

Keep in mind that all of the Star Wars literature has been written by a smattering of writers. Lots do a good job in keeping with canon, lots don't. Always try and find some Star Wars forum review before you grab something so you can see if something is nerd approved; they're rarely wrong. My recommendation:

                      1. Splinter of the Mind's Eye - Co-written (ish) by Lucas and the guy who helped him do the screenplay for 'A New Hope'. Wrote it not knowing that there would be a second movie, and it supposedly helped Lucas decide to make it into a trilogy. Takes place between Episodes 3 and 4, centered mostly around Luke and Leia.

                      2. Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn. Started the whole Star Wars literature craze in the 90s. Zahn seems to have put more thought and work into keeping the plot consistent with the original trilogy than anyone else. This trilogy also takes place immediately after (within the lifetime of Luke) the original trilogy, which helps give you some background and familiarity. All of that, plus the writing is good and the stories are compelling. The rumors have always been that, if additional movies were made, Episodes 7-9 would be based on this trilogy. It makes the most sense, and I really hope that's how it works. In order, the books are:

                      - Heir to the Empire
                      - Dark Force Rising
                      - The Last Command

Really compelling character to replace Vader as the figurehead of the Empire and it shows a more mature, force-embracing Luke that's pretty interesting.

The worst part about Episodes 1-3 were Hayden Christiansen. His mom must've sucked some serious dick to get him cast in that role. Other than him and Jar Jar Binks, I think that the 3 movies were fine. As good as the original? Of course not. Most films aren't.

Pretty excited to hear that the Star Wars universe will be continued on film.

Looks like the rumors are that VII will be completely new. It's being reported that it will not be based upon the Thrawn Trilogy. Possibility that it will be based on something Lucas was already working on as a sequel, but never finished.
