I watched this for the first time since it was on reelz. I am a big western fan so I figured I really needed to watch it. I have to say it was a great series, but Damn was it depressing. I felt pretty bad seeing Robert duvals character go out like that.

Oh yea, and Diane lane was and still is one hot bitch.

One of my favorites of all time. Really a masterpiece. I remember reading the book when it came out.

Weird that this thread just came up, I just started watching it on Netflix Streaming last Saturday. Pretty good so far and can't believe the movie is that old (1988 or 1989 I believe).

It's one of my 3 year old daughters favorite movie's, it's definitely a classic. On a side note I once hit the authors house while playing golf in high-school, had to jump an 8ft privacy fence to get it back.

I've got it in my Netflix queue but haven't seen it just yet. It's near the top though.

Weird x2 I just finished watching it on Netflix a couple of days ago.

Great movie series. Don't for get to watch the other two series as well. "Comanche Moon" takes place before "Lonesome Dove", and "Return to Lonesome Dove" happens directly after.

...and make sure you never finish Lonesome Dove right before going out drinking with your buddies. Man was that a mistake.

Oliver Loving. Charles Goodnight carried a picture of him in his coat pocket until he died.

Yup, this was loosely based off of a true story. Goodnight took loving about 600 miles instead of the 3000 miles claimed in the movie. Loving actually was shot in the wrist, not the knee. I didn't know this till the next day when the history channel happened to be showing a special on the real lonesome dove. Story.
