  • For those who remember when MTV was cool.

Tomorrow MTV turns 30. I haven't watched the channel since the late 90's when the majority of their programming no longer involved playing videos, but I will say that the network was a daily staple of my youth like I'm sure it was to a lot of Gen-Xer's. Video's, Daytona Beach, The Music Video Awards, Remote Control, Yo MTV Raps!, 120 Minutes, Headbanger's Ball, Liquid Television, Beavis and Butthead, Unplugged, and even the first few season's of The Real World, I grew up loving every second of it. Just thinking about it makes me smile.

That being said, MTV is basically doing nothing to commemorate the landmark, but all weekend VH1 Classic is playing clips and videos to pay homage to when MTV wasn't terrible horseshit and tonight at 11 they are replaying the first hour that MTV went on the air, so set your DVR's if you care. Honestly, I wish they would start tonight at 11 and replay MTV in perfect chronological order covering Aug. 1, 1981 to Aug. 1, 1999.

Been watching on and off a little today. Pretty cool stuff. They played some Live Aid footage, and some classic Jimmy the cab driver commercials. They also ran a lot of old vacation contest promo's from the mid 80's like Christmas with Quiet Riot, Hedonism with Bon Jovi, and I caught an episode of Remote Control with the RHCP. I was glued to the tv at times like a little kid.

I think I haven't watched since the early 90's. As mentioned before, when it became less music and more bullshit, I stopped watching.

They need to throw it back. The crap on there now couldn't grab my attention for 3 seconds.

Liquid television, I used to love that shit! I also love the unplugged series.

You think Mtv would risk not showing a re-run of Jersey Shore to celebrate their 30th anniversary?

I watched quite a bit of it and the first hour replay. Trent Reznor was on 120 minutes after Down In It came out but before Head Like A Hole so '89-'90?. The interviewer was lame but it was a cool clip.
