Me and two others were on duty and eating at a local catfish place. This estabishment has mostly black customers and one of my partners was black, and it is also owned by a black male. We sit down and start eating and I will be damned this movie is on. The owner walks out and goes man this is one of my all time favorite movies and has the volume cranked up. I remembered seeing it as a kid but had forgot how out there it was, and the guy with us had never seen it. When I tell you it made for a really uncomfortable lunch I am not lying. All we wanted to do was eat and get the hell out of there. You could tell some of the younger people in the place had not seen it either and were just kind of staring at each other. We have laughed about that for years.
Be honest, it was difficult for you to type "black male" instead of "suspect"....
I'm having trouble understanding the greatness of Blazing Saddles. For some reason though, it just makes me uncomfortable. The black dude in the quick sand was the end of my journey as far as that movie goes. I think it's that I like racial jokes, but not actual racism.
Its a satire how dumb the white people are for looking down at black people. Then a black sheriff comes in and saves a town full of white people.
Mel Brooks has talked about how he wrote most of the black jokes and Richard Pryor wrote most of the white jokes.
Pryor had the idea for the script and Mel Brooks got the movie rolling. Pryor was suppose to be cast as The Sheriff but his love of the coke prevented him from being cast.
One of my all time favorite movies. Can watch over and over and over.
Taggart: I know how we can run everyone out of Rock Ridge.
Hedley Lamarr: How?
Taggart: We'll kill the first born male child in every household.
Hedley Lamarr: Too Jewish.
One of my faves...
