I was in the mood for a good western the other day too but left the store empty handed.. The Proposition is a great film. It was written by Nick Cave of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, The Birthday Party and Grinderman. It is not a typical American western -- it takes place during the early days of British governance of Austalia, but it is a fantastic film. How do we forget ourselves? How do we forget our minds?

If you liked Quigley, watch Australia with Nicole Kidman.
86 posted a good modern list. I just got a Clint Eastwood box set that I'm about to plunge into. Nothing better than the oldies when it comes to Westerns. I think Hollywood has lost its grip on Westerns, for the most part. I think a really good Western, produced by some of the older guys like Eastwood and Kristoferson would make some good money. It has been long overdue.

I know they aren't new, but have you seen these oldies? "The Searcher's", "The Sons of Katie Elder", and "The Shootist", are a few of my John Wayne staples. "The Magnificent Seven" had a huge cast of greats, and "The Wild Bunch" was a Sam Peckinpah masterpiece. I've seen each of these dozens of times, but will still stop and watch one if it shows up on the tube.

Whoa. If we're getting into Peckinpah, we're talking high quality films. Nice call Vertnut. Almost everything he made post Wild Bunch (with Iron Cross a notable exception) could be considered a modern classic of the western genre. They're all brilliant, well thought out pieces.Last edited by YALE; 04-26-2011, 12:23 AM.ZOMBIE REAGAN FOR PRESIDENT 2016!!! heh
