  • should i jailbreak my 3g?

first off i do not have a comp at home and i only have my phone scync'd to a friends computer because he likes a lot of the same music as i do. when it comes to apps i only have a few(that was also borrowed from said friend) and they are just games. the main things i do with my phone is talk/txt/surf web, i occasionally play games/listen to music/surf youtube. here are my questions:

what are the benefits to jailbreaking?
would a casual user like me really benefit from jailbreaking?
    are apps free?
does jailbreaking it cause it to run slower or lag AT ALL?(this would be a deal breaker for me)

this is sort of a different subject but i have talked to a few people that have updated their software and said that it runs a bit slower at times or lags after the update. was this a widespread problem?

    thanks

I had a jailbroken 3G that was unlocked for tmobile. It had intolerable lag all over the place. After a while it would take 10 sec to open anything. It got to the point where I just wanted to be able to text again lol, so I sold it. Save yourself the hassle. If you are just a casual user it really won't make a difference, you can get apps free but it isn't to easy. The biggest plus is being able to customize everything ( touch to unlock, SMS backgrounds, new icons, themes, etc) if you are on AT&T then you can always unjailbreak it if you want ( I was on tmobile and couldn't) but my advice would be to skip it. Customization is cool but so is phone functionality.

The biggest problem with jailbreaking a 3g is the lack of processor strength with added multitasking functionality. The 3g simply cant support multitasking, so you need to remove that feature and the lag should be much more tolerable.
