  • where to get computer repair?

    Heres the cliffnotes version -

Bought a new laptop from best buy 2 months ago. I think i downloaded a virus or something and now the computer is messed up. I didn't have any anti virus programs on there yet so now im in trouble.

The computer will boot and go to the welcome screen where you type in your password but locks up there. I cant get in to install a virus software and am not sure what to do now. Im certain all it needs is a virus scan but unless I can boot it, I cant do that.

Ive tried safe mode and that doesn't work. I just dont want to have reformat cause there are pictures and stuff on there I need. Any help or ideas would be GREATLY appreciated!

Get someone to extract the photos off the harddrive then reformat.

    Does it go into safemode?

It doesnt work in safe mode. It will look like its "installing" it then saw some w32 files are missing or something.

Also the computer is a Dell. I know some dont like dell but we have had good luck with them so the wife wanted another. I called them and the warranty only covers hardware issues so they wont help me at all. Fuckers

A perfect case of why we back up files....

If you can't live without the files, the files may need to be recovered externally.

If you have a working computer (with a working antivirus), you may be able to add the drive as a secondary (or use a USB dock). Then recover the files.

Reformat it with a fresh load and take it as a lesson learned...

                        makes sense.

I have never looked at a hard drive out of a laptop.

I am so out of the game.
