Redhat linux guru's, ? for ya

This is just an annoyance more than anything, but for the life of me I can not figure out where/how to change it. When you log into the Gnome desktop and open you home folder, then navigate to any other folder, it opens each in it's own window. Can you set something so it all opens in the same stupid window? I hate having to go 8 directories deep, and 8 windows open to get there!

I'm more of a command line user myself, but sometimes use the old dekstop/folder way to open something.
