If anyone is building a desktop or needing some ram for an upgrade, I have 16gb DDR4 3200Mhz I'll let go for cheap. I paid $199.99 for it when I got it Dec of '17, it now sells for $75ish. I'll sell for $50, you pay shipping.

The screen shot is part of the invoice from when I built last and shows what I paid, so you can see how bad a haircut I'm takin.

Not to highjack the thread, but how do you like the ryzen build?

It's been an absolute beast, I've not found the limits of it yet and I push it hard. It's also a first gen, the 3rd gen that just released is a pretty considerable upgrade over it if you're lookin to build. I'm building 2 Ryzen 9 3900x boxes this weekend, one for a client, one for a coworker.

I'm definitely thinking about going that route.

Just make sure you reference the QVL for the mobo when you're ram shopping, it's imperative.

Do you happen to still have this? I "accidentally" ordered a second Ryzen 5 3400g, and may end up building a second computer with it ILO sending it back.

I do, but know that you'll likely only be able to run the ram at 2133mhz.

I thought this chip supported DDR 3200. Is there a BIOS or internal stop causing it to only run/support 2133 mhz?

                  What mobo do you have?

Unfortunately, Asrock only lists a single ram kit that they guarantee to run at 3200Mhz with your cpu.

That said, the ram I have will run with the combo, but will be limited to the JDEC standard that ALL ddr4 is based on. Anything over 2133Mhz is technically considered overclocked.

This will work fine, but it also will limit the performance of the SoC as Ryzen, the Infinity Fabric and the on-die GPU performance are all directly tied to the speed of the ram.

If you just want to use it for normal day to day, you'll likely never know or notice the difference, but if you're trying to eek every drop of perf out of the build, I'd pony up for what the QVL lists.

If you want it, it's yours, just lmk.

It seems I read somewhere that his chipset was a variant of Pinnacle Ridge so RAM compatibility should be the same, though, I haven't seen any solid confirmation on that.

Not really looking to go balls out, on either build. The parts that are inbound are the CPU, Mobo, and G Skill Ripjawz DDR4 3200.

The primary use is web browsing and mild graphic design. Typically multiple browser tabs and windows open, as well as multiple instances of Inkscape running concurrently.

I suffered two failures in one day. Both older computers, one more than 10 years old IIRC, and the other was the PSU on the second hand optiplex 790 I've been running as our shipping terminal. While trying to get my dinosaur up and running, it failed on me as well. So, I decided it was time to re-build. I started building around the Ryzen 3, but decided I may benefit from the 8 threads of the Ryzen 5 vs the 4 in the 3. probably WAY more computer than I need for what I will use them for though.
