Plex and 4k

Is it even transcoding the content? If so, is your source and transcode temp on different hdd's? Not just different partitions on the same physical disk.

I ask because if they're on the same drive, you could be i/o bound.

I believe it is transcoding, there are files in the temp folder. I've tried both on a seperate drive and the same drive.

Well crap. Can you try a different client to play with and see if it buffers like that? Or do you have another server that's shared with you that you can try? I don't have any 4k content because I don't have a player for 4k content, despite having a 4k TV. ����

I have some fire sticks and chromecast but I don't think those are 4k capable.

I did try it over DLNA but it wasn't any better or worse.

I asked some friends in a Plex group on Telegram and they all said 4k streaming can be spotty on anything but the Nvidia Shield.

4k works just fine for me long as I am not transcoding.

I only have two 4k movies on my Plex server. Both play fine with my Roku Ultra using an old computer as a server.
