how do you feel codeacademy's teaching is compared to real world coding? I would like to look into it mainly looking to learn some coding needed for Amazon API's.

It looks like it's OK for the basics. I'm a bit disappointed that their Python course is 10 hours and Java is only 4. There's a lot more to building software than just writing the code: key principles to guide you, patterns to use, and anti-patterns to avoid. PluralSight is a great resource but it's not free.
